Walking in paradise

Madeira is a walker’s paradise. Today we did a 13 km walk to Levada do Caldeirao Verde, and oggled at the 100 m waterfall. Walking the levadas (aqueduct) you are on the contour so it is gentle on the knees, and the views are magnificent. But thank goodness for the handrails ‘cos sometimes the track is only 30cm wide and the falloff is hundreds of metres. There are fish in the levadas and quite a few walkers at times!!Read more
