• Golden Gate Bridge

    September 26, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

We arrived at our hotel to check in and they advised us our room was ready. Scott and I were really happy as we were expecting to just leave our bags until check in. We went up to our room and showered and got ready. We decided we would go to the Golden Gate Bridge.

We found a diner called Mel’s Diner and decided to order a coffee each and some sweet potato fries. The latte’s were massive, and definitely not like a Melbourne coffee. The fog had cleared slightly from earlier so we took some photos and then decided to walk across the bridge which is 1.7 miles long.

As we started walking over the bridge, thick fog rolled in, and the city and Alcatraz were soon hidden. As we made it to the other side of the bridge it cleared up and we were able to see seals in the water. We walked to the viewpoint before returning to walk back across the bridge. The fog had cleared surely but it was still very thick. We headed into the information and gift area to learn about the history of the bridge and the colour ‘International Orange’ was chosen for the bridge to provide visibility to ships in foggy conditions. The bridge also has to be repainted every year due to the salt that erodes the paint.
