• Lower Yosemite Falls & El Capitan

    1 Oktober 2024, Kanada ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

After our hike we headed to the visitor centre. We spoke to a ranger at the information centre who gave us a map and some recommendations for hikes and places to go to for the rest of the week. The weather forecast was also showing the next couple days as 35 degrees Celsius, so very warm for hiking.

We decided to walked to Lower Yosemite Falls which was about a 20 minute walk from the visitor centre. Unfortunately, as it was the end of summer the falls were only just trickling over the edge. We walked back to the visitor centre and stopped in at the art gallery. The art gallery had lots of paints and photos of different views of Yosemite Valley with the Half Dome featuring in many.

We then decided to drive to El Capitan which was on the way out of the park. We pulled over in a carpark and walked to a viewing area. El Capitan is a 1,000 metre vertical granite face, and we could see a few rock climbers climbing up. Seeing the rock face in real life we couldn’t believe people would free solo up the face.

We then headed out of the Valley back towards El Portal. The ranger had advised us they were could pay as we left the park for a day pass, but we were just waved through. We arrived back at the accommodation and relaxed and had dinner. We started watching Free Solo before heading off to sleep.
