• Glacier Point, Sentinel Dome, Taft Point

    2 Oktober 2024, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

We set the alarm at 5am and quickly got ready. We had prepared all our food for the day the night before so we didn’t have much to organise. We were on the road by 5:30am and had a 1 hour drive to Glacier Point. We made it to the park entrance and were happy to see that we didn’t have to pay to enter again.

We drove through a long tunnel which was pretty cool, before making our way up the mountain. It was getting much lighter and the views over the valley were beautiful. We arrived at Glacier Point about 10 minutes before the sunrise, so we decided to stay and watch it rise. We had a beautiful view of mountains and the half dome, as the sun rose.

We then found the trailhead and started the incline towards Sentinel Dome. We were walking through a forest with little views until we reached the base of Sentinel Dome. We walked to the top of the granite dome and there were views down the valley of El Capitan. We had breakfast on top of the dome.

We then continued towards Taft Point which was a mainly downhill trail through a forest. We arrived at the end of the forest and walked over many fissires on the edge of a cliff. You had to watch where you were walking in places and make sure you weren’t about to walk off an edge. We walked up to the lookout, and we were essentially on the cliff edge except for this one point that had a fence around it. Scott said he had tingly hands and feet from standing so close to the edge. We could see views of El Capitan and into the valley.

After a short break we walked back up to Sentinel Dome, with views looking out over the valley, before making our way back to Glacier Point. We walked to Glacier Point where there were information boards about how Yosemite was created during the ice age. In total we walked 13.6km with a total of 541m elevation.

We had lunch at Glacier Point before heading back to Yosemite Village.
