• Chilnualna Falls

    4 Oktober 2024, Kanada ⋅ ☁️ 5 °C

We left the Welcome Centre and decided we would go to a viewpoint or picnic area for lunch. I had looked at Chilnualna Falls as a potential afternoon walk so we drove through the town of Mariposa towards the start of the walk. We drove past it and decided to stop at the river. We walked down onto the rocks and ate lunch. We thought they really should have a picnic area on the river back so people didn’t have to sit on the rocks.

We then drove a couple of hundred metres and parked near the trailhead for Chilnualna Falls. The track was quite narrow and all uphill to the falls. Our legs were a bit sore and we were both quite exhausted as it was also really hot. We arrived at the base of the falls and I noticed we could climb a bit higher. We continued up until we found a large rock and we lay on it for about another 20 minutes, before heading back to the start of the trail.

We then drove back to the accomodation which was over an hour to get back. In the way we drove past El Capitan where heaps of people were parked on the side of the road taking photos and most had binoculars looking for climbers. At the park entrance we stopped to take a photo and someone pulled over and took a photo for us which was really nice.

As soon as we got back to the accommodation we put our bathers on and headed for the pool. We jumped in the spa which was so hot and then into the cold pool a couple of times before relaxing with our books. We had salad for dinner and then starting packing our items as we would be up early the next morning to drive to San Francisco airport. I was exhausted and fell asleep while Scott helped tidy a few items so we had a quicker start in the morning.
