• Home Valley Walks

    21. August in Australien ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We slept in this morning until around 7am. I was feeling quite lethargic and it took a while to get going. We ate chia seeds and yoghurt for breakfast and had two coffees before we were ready for our walk. We headed to the start of the hiking trail and it was already after 9am and over 30 degrees!

We started along Bindoola Gorge Trail which was a short and flat walk to a beautiful water pool. There were signs everywhere advising of crocodiles and no swimming. We sat in the shade of the gorge and tried to look for crocodiles but couldn’t see any. We continued on and started walking to My Baldy. As we started up the hill a big Willy Willy came up the hill. The noise was like a tractor and the wind from the little dust storm was very strong.

We walked to the top of Mt Baldy and spotted many lizards on the way. At the top there were beautiful views of Cockburn Range - unfortunately due to the smoke the view wasn’t as clear as it could be.

We walked back down and headed towards Bindoola Gorge Lookout Trail where we had views into the gorge and of the water pools. We stopped for lunch under a tree before walking back down the track and towards the homestead. We arrived back after 1pm and were very hot and exhausted. We spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool.

For sunset we walked up Cockburn Lookout Trail which was a short 800m track up a slight hill. We arrived at 4:50pm and had a great view of the ranges. We watched as the escarpment glowed as the sun set. After sun set we headed back to the accommodation where we prepared dinner and fell asleep.
