• Ancient Champa ruins

    May 16, 2022 in Vietnam ⋅ 🌧 27 °C

The temples of My Son were built between the 4th and 14th century by the Cham people. The site was used for religious ceremonies for kings of the ruling dynasties of the Champa, as well as a burial place for Cham royalty and national heroes. It was 10km away from the former Champa capital. We wondered if really nobody lived here. 🤔

Sadly, many of the temples were destroyed by the Americans during one single week of bombing during the American War (the war we know in the west as Vietnam War).

Nonetheless, it's a really beautiful place in the middle of the jungle and the ruins reminded me of Bagan and Angkor Wat, smaller in scale but very pretty and really worth a visit for people who like history or architecture.
