Week 2 of Placement

Following a risk assessment it has been decided that the Multi sensory rooms are not quite up to the standards expected (See the picture of the broken music board). This is good news for us as one of the learning objectives is to bring about a service improvement! Also we have been invited to attend a series of weekly workshops: "To support the building of therapeutic relationships and effective connections through the application of systemic ideas" sounds interesting!
Had the opportunity to observe in two different areas of Inspire this week:
Autism Early Intervention for children aged 4 to 6 where they follow a clear schedule of activities designed to work on and improve motor skills, communication, and social interaction. I enjoyed meeting with the speech therapist and observing the work they do.
STAR 25 for adults with cerebral palsy and other comorbidities. These clients attend for 25 hours each week and follow a schedule of activities to provide different sensory stimulation. Most have very limited non verbal communication. This was a challenging experience as I have never worked with clients with severe disability before. I found it quite hard and not really sure how I feel about this experience yet. It was useful to see the work of the physiotherapist who carry out a range of passive movements with the clients.However a highlight for me was planning and implementing my first physical activity intervention for the Student Outreach clients (SOP) I knew all those obstacles courses I made for my girls on our beach holidays would come in handy! I called it the 5x activity course (5 different actions each had to be done 5 times) It worked!Leia mais
