Hey Sal so exciting to see you in this place. So much amazing history, you must be close to the Petermann Ranges which were formed 600 million years ago and I think around during the cryogenia ice age. I'm tempted to go and have a look myself. If you do get to the Petermann Ranges I'd love a little bit 😁

    Katherine Gorge

Katherine Gorge is a deep gorge in Nitmiluk National Park carved through ancient sandstone by the Katherine River. It is made up of thirteen gorges, with rapids and falls. We woke up early for sunrise and hiked 12km return to the second gorge, called Butterfly Gorge, which takes you through a monsoon forest full of butterflies to a section of the Katherine River.

Edith Falls (Leliyn) is a series of cascading waterfalls and pools on the Edith River in Nitmiluk National Park, located approximately 60 km north of Katherine. A swim across the main pool, climb up the waterfall, and scramble across the rocks takes you to many secluded swimming holes and falls.

    Maguk Falls

Our second Kakadu stop was Maguk Falls. Previously known as Barramundi Gorge, Maguk is a gorgeous swimming hole that is fed by a waterfall. The highlight for us though was a short but steep hike to the top of the waterfall, where there is a series of beautiful swimming holes overlooking the gorge.

    Jim Jim Falls

A 50km corrugated road, followed by a 10km 4WD track brings you to Jim Jim Falls - Kakadu’s biggest waterfall. At 200m high it’s also taller than all of the waterfalls at Litchfield and Nitmiluk National Parks. In wet season Jim Jim Falls can only be seen by helicopter, but thankfully the road to Jim Jim opened back up just in time for us to check them out! A bit of rock hopping through the forest opens up into an impressive plunge pool which we were lucky enough to have all to ourselves.

    Territory Day

Territory Day marks the day when the Northern Territory left Commonwealth control and achieved self-government in 1978. It is the only time in Australia that the public sale, use and possession of fireworks without a permit is legal. The main celebration in Darwin is held at Mindil beach, where hundreds of people bring their own fireworks and music, market stalls, and a professional fireworks display are all provided.
