    Bamburgh Castle

    It felt right to visit the castle, as it was the seat of Oswald's throne.
    Like many castles and churches, it has been added to over the years and most of the original is no longer there.
    It has a beauty, though, and many, many stories to tell!
    One of the staff gave a fascinating talk this afternoon telling the stories of Oswald and his predecessors and the spread of Christianity in the kingdom of Northumbria; his links with St Aidan and St Cuthbert and the monks of Iona and Lindisfarne.    Read more
