    OKC to C Springs

    May 23 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 66 °F

A day that ends with mountains is a good day. An easy 9.5 hour drive to Mom’s house in beautiful weather. The only painful part was filling the tank! Grateful to have the resources.

  • Favorite trail

    May 25 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 72 °F

I know I hike the Columbine Trail in Cheyenne Canyon and take the same photos every year, but I just love it so much. I turned around at the right time - the thunder started as I got back to my car. Lots of people and dogs on holiday hikes!Read more

  • Garden of the Gods hike

    May 26 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

Today’s hike was in (arguably) the best city park in the country. Scads of people around the rocks but quieter on the trail elsewhere.

Dinner at a Colorado Springs landmark - the Navajo Hogan. There was a big fire there in 2021 but they’ve restored it and only reopened very recently.Read more

  • C Springs to SLC

    May 28 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

The last couple of days in the Springs were quite cloudy and damp, so no more hikes or photos. I drove to Utah Thursday to stay with my stepbrother’s family on the way to California. I drove west on 24 and then north through Fairplay and Breckenridge. Not many photos since I didn’t want to arrive too late, but here are some from Hoosier Pass.Read more

  • My turn!

    May 30 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

A long day of travel from OKC to California! Clear day with lots of mountains but not much snow. :(

Made our way to San Francisco, which will be home base until Wednesday. Let the adventures begin!

  • City Tour

    May 31 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 52 °F

Having not ridden my bike in over a week, I decided it was time to get back on that horse! Waterfront, Golden Gate, Marin Headlands, and Presidio. Really fun 20 miler! I did a similar ride 30+ years ago. Pretty sure I am in way better shape today!Read more

  • So many flowers!

    June 2 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F

I went to the DeYoung Fine Arts Museum, where they have an exhibit of Monet in Venice. Very inspiring. Then I walked around the beautiful park/botanical gardens around the museum and ended up at the conservatory of flowers. Unbelievable collection of plants there!

I didn’t document with pics but also visited two bookstores here. I’ve really enjoyed our time here. We head north tomorrow.

  • SF to Eugene to Carlton

    June 3 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

I’m including a few of my pics from the redwood forest. One of those places that photos can’t come close to capturing but you have to try! Camping was chilly but peaceful. We enjoyed our time in Eugene with our dear friends (not enough pics of that!) and then we drove a couple of hours north to see my birth dad and his wife. At the risk of stating the obvious, this part of the country is SO beautiful! I’m so happy we have the time and resources to take this trip.

Speaking of resources - most expensive gas in CA was $6.79/gallon. Ouch.

  • Carlton, OR

    June 5 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 61 °F

We’ve been visiting family and doing some wine tasting here in the Willamette Valley. So green and beautiful!

  • Bend, walking

    June 8 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 52 °F

One beautiful mountain drive later, we landed in Bend to spend time with Neal’s family. It’s never enough time here but we crammed in as much outdoor time as we could. I wish I could bottle up the cool temperatures and the smell of pine trees!

I’m attaching pix from my walks/hikes as I assume Neal will post about his bike rides.

  • Bend Biking and Beverages

    June 9 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

Two beautiful days in Bend spent on the bike. I left from Sparrow Bakery (Ocean Rolls for the win!) and rode up through the national forest off of Skyliners Road. In all the years I lived here, I didn’t spend a lot of time in this area, so it was nice to explore someplace new to me.

Day two was spent on the trails that started me in mountain biking. Loads of fun on my gravel.

Each day ended with the obligatory beverage!

  • Desolate and beautiful

    June 11 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

6 hour drive today from Bend to Glenns Ferry in Idaho. Most people I talk to hate the drive across Oregon, but it has many good memories for me, so it’s never burdensome.

Camp is set up and ready to rest up for tomorrow’s drive to Grand Junction!Read more

  • Favorite Places

    June 13 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

We chose to take the scenic route from Grand Junction to Colorado Springs through Leadville and Buena Vista. I wish we had time to ride and hike, but that will have to be for another day.

We arrived in the Springs with plenty of time to have dinner with Kate’s mom before packing up for the long drive to OKC on Sunday.

    Go Knicks!!

  • Home is where Hank is!

    June 14 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 77 °F

An early start got us home with no issues (although I tried to get us lost) around 6pm. A few minutes later, Hank arrived! We are so grateful for our friends, Michael and Jeanmarie, for taking in the boy while his parents are traveling around the country! We know he had a great time with you!

Now, time to relax back into reality… until the next trip!
