    Generally, there is only one road to Alaska , the Alaskan Highway that opened for civilian traffic after WW2 . But there is the option, which we are taking , to drive through British Columbia, called the Yellow head/ Casiar Hwy , and merge later with the Alaskan Hwy. Snowy mountains all around , many hikes not open yet due to snow and quite a lot of interesting native American culture. Visiting the reconstructed native village Ksan, leaves us wondering how we would do, if we had to get all things from nature...like here all dwellings, canoes, clothing and tools are made from red cedar. Also impressed by the many Totem poles, we are trying to understand their meaning based on the instructions:"Totem poles are read from the solid base at the bottom to the top figure, as it points skyward to never ending possibilities ".
    In Hyder, a short side trip of the Casiar, we return to the ocean and also touch Alaska for the first time .
