Traveler Pardon my seemingly off topic pics, but I was getting in my NH#69, Nicky Hayden club rides for the week covering June 9th, or 6/9. Nicky was the 2006 MotoGP champ, and after motorcycle racing since early childhood - was tragically later killed (hit by a car) while X-training on a bicycle, near his 2nd, European home in Italy. The Gorge trail at this state park was absolutely breathtaking (gorgeous *)!We made terrible time on this hike because we just kept stopping to take pictures and marvel at the beauty and splendor of creation!
There were so many waterfalls, steps and bridges around every new twist and turn!

Today's forecast calls for rain and storms. Brian, Zach and I went out for a paddle before the storm. Our time began with the water being so calm that it was like floating on glass. It ended with us battling waves to get back. We made it safe and sound. It was a wild ride, but so fun!Read more

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge

It's a rainy day, so we spent some time driving around this wildlife refuge. We saw many birds, including a bald eagle, a goose family, and a snapping turtle.
Traveler He's still covered in grass and muck from his winter hang out spot...but he's huge!

We hiked the gorge trail in the Treman state park. It is just west of Ithaca. We were speechless with its beauty!
So many waterfalls...so GORGE-OUS! We took the upper rim trail on the way back. Emphasis on "upper"! We had to ascend 223 steps...all together...to get to the trail head.Read more

It was a rainy day, but after the museum, we drove to the Genessee River and had dinner at the Genessee restaurant. It overlooks High Falls on the Genessee River. We were able to eat out on the patio because they had large ceiling heaters. This enabled us to view the Falls all through dinner. So fun! After we ate dinner, the rain stopped. We were able to drive further north to take a walk along Lake Ontario. We could definitely tell a cold front had moved in... we were freezing. However, we were still able to go for ice cream after our walk.Read more

Cayuga Nature Center trail

After our Taughanock hike, we drove 3 miles to visit the Cayuga Nature Center. The trail walked us past rescued wildlife enclosures and to a climbing tree house that overlooked Dennison Falls. The tree house had a lot of climbing nooks, crannies, ladders and chain nets to explore in order to reach the top! So cool!Read more

A flight from an old Mack engineer friend (Gilead) to fly to get ice cream🍦! Gilead flew from Rochester to the Finger Lakes Airport , which is 2.9 miles from our rental home. Then they flew from Finger Lakes to Dansville Airport, which has an ice cream shop on the premises.Read more

Firepit fun

While the boys were taking a ride in an airplane, Hannah and I decided to attempt starting a fire in the firepit. We were successful and we roasted smoked sausage and marshmallows over the open fire.

I (Brian) bicycled to Geneva (NY), on Seneca Lake, but as with Switzerland - and the popular song smoke on the water, 1972 Deep Purple's song, "Swiss time was running out, It seemed that I would lose the (check out) race!" (We've had enough rain, and mornings are cold, It's a bit of challenge to time our biking and kayaking). NOTE: The Seneca Lake Pk had a trail to beach & town, but was "gravel". Not for road bikes. The road over there was a bit too "highway", down to 1 lane for construction, so I headed back (& Swiss Time was Running Out). Zach & I to return by van.Read more
TravelerMy million dollar pic, was only 150 ft behind the yacht house - sailing school / rental boats - up to 2 sail Hobie cat' catamarans! (Lucky for the family, I didn't see these until "Swiss Time was Running Out!" BTW, I DID get pics of sailing school, boats, when we returned by van. Didn't have space to upload. Sunfish and a few Hobie cats - not bad for fun, training with le$$ at stake, etc.

Geneva, NY - beautiful, clean, modern, historic and true to it's name - European looking town/city. Zach and I went, just the next finger lake West, North tip, whilst Jomar & Hannah went on ahead to the Reptile Land (see footprint). NOTE: I went back with Zach, as I was impressed by what I saw by bicycle - but couldn't safely get over to the town by bike, was nearing check-out, etc.Read more

Hannah and I saw this on our drive to the Finger Lakes and decided to make it a stop on the way home.
This place is really nice and clean with nice exhibits of reptiles, an animatrinic dinosaur park and several bird and amphibian displays. I faced my fear of birds by going in an enclosure with about a hundred loose parakeets and cockateils. We bought seed sticks and the birds would crawl out on the stick and eat the seeds. It was pretty cool.Read more

We have heard this restaurant advertised on the Christian radio station for years. We drove by it on the way up and decided to stop on the way home. It played music from the '50's and had car hops waiting on you. The Bunny burger was incredible, and the milkshakes and floats were yummy, too! It was a fun way to end our trip.Read more
