  • The Great Hall and Chapel Royal

    24. syyskuuta 2022, Skotlanti ⋅ ⛅ 63 °F

The Great Hall was used for banquets. During military use floors were added to make a barracks. It has been restored, including the carved wood ceiling, and is now available for events such as weddings.

The Great Kitchens that served the Great Hall have been reconstructed to show what it would have looked and sounded like while meals were prepared.

Chapel Royal has some beautiful murals. This is where Mary, Queen of Scots son, James the VI was crowned at the age of 13 months.

  • Loch Lomond & The Trossachs Nat'l. Park

    26. syyskuuta 2022, Skotlanti ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F

We took a day trip around the national park. In between the raindrops, we saw some very pretty views. The northern part of the park is quite rugged. We drove along several lochs, and picnicked on the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond! It is 22.6 miles long by up to 5 miles wide, and is the largest lake in the United Kingdom by surface area. (Loch Ness has more volume though.) Loch Lomond's southern end is dotted by 30 or more islands. Fishing, boating, and other water sports are very popular here.Lue lisää

  • Stopover in Dublin, Ireland

    2. lokakuuta 2022, Irlanti ⋅ ⛅ 63 °F

This morning we flew to Dublin, checked into our hotel, and took a Hop-On-Hop-Off tour. The River Liffey is very pretty with its many bridges, including the Ha'penny Bridge, which once had a half-penny toll. Dublin is known for its colorful doors to dress up the uniform Georgian homes.

The main throughfare is O'Connell Street, which has statues of famous people in Dublin's history, as well as The Spire, a 400 ft high pointed "monument of light". Also on that street is the General Post Office, site of the Easter Rising of 1916, a protest against British rule.

Christ Church Cathedral has an arched bridge over the street, leading to a museum. We went to an evensong service at St Patrick's Cathedral and both the organ and the choir were heavenly!

  • Sunset in Apache Junction, Arizona

    3. lokakuuta 2022, Yhdysvallat ⋅ ⛅ 79 °F

We are home after our flight from Dublin, 14.5 hour travel time counting a layover in Calgary. We were so tired after driving from Scotland to Leeds, then an early flight the next morning to Dublin, sightseeing in Dublin that day, and the flight home from there today. I came down with CoVid two days after we got home. Then Dean came down with it two days later, just as I was starting to feel somewhat better. We are grateful that we didn't get it until we were home!

We have talked on the phone to our grandson, Nathaniel and he still remembers us. Yay! We sure enjoyed spending time with him this summer!

Needless to say, I was late finishing our blog! We do thank you for following our trip!
