Fortunately we are going out for afternoon tea this afternoon so after a slow lazy breakfast, a stressful check in for our flight home; as we needed a UK Passenger Locator Form ref no., which took 50 mins and 3 phone calls to the UK to complete 😱🤬🤯, I took some more photos around the hotel 🏨.Read more

  • Back on the bus

    March 8, 2022 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

After breakfast with a relaxing view of the deserted pool, we hopped back on the bus from Funchal to Camara de Lobos. Directly translated into English as Seal Sanctuary, although now all the monk seals have moved on to a small island called appropriately Desertas Islands. Camara de Lobos was founded in 1835 but only granted town status in 1996. One famous visitor here was Winston Churchill who sat in a whicker chair and painted 🎨 the view. After an hour we hopped back onto the bus to return to Funchal and its town center.Read more

  • Day 1 - Check out the hotel

    March 6, 2022 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Day 1 - sun, sea and plenty of ..........relaxation 😇

Chilly start to the day so had breakfast inside not realising that some of the patio area was enclosed. Staff very friendly, no queues at the delicious omelette counter (well at 08:00 anyway). Then it was time to check out the hotel and its amenities:
2 indoor pools and 2 outdoor pools
    Spa and gym
4 restaurants and 2 poolside bars
Plenty of sun loungers not only by the pools but on quiet lawned areas as well.
    Overlooking the beach ⛱️

  • Up, Up and Away

    March 5, 2022 in Portugal ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

As the song goes in my beautiful machine...only this was a Boeing 737-800. Anyway it was a lovely smooth 3 hours plus flight ✈️ from Manchester to Funchal. Our suitcases must have been stored very carefully as they were nearly the last ones on the carousel. Short 40 min transfer to out hotel 🏨 we couldn't miss it as Jayne and I were the last 2 people on the bus to be dropped off. Porto Mare Hotel seems very nice no sea view but a view of the garden which looks quite nice lit up at night. Anyway unpacked and time to head out for something to eat and sample the local beer 🍺.Read more
