Day 21 Galleno to Badia Pozzeveri

I spent the morning walking to my
Ostello. I walked through Altopascio and it was market day. The place was humming. I had breakfast of a pastry and cappuccino as the Italians seem to have. Who am I to buck the trend. Not much further was my Ostello. What a fantastic place. It’s donation only and there are 4 people greeting those who are staying or just passing through. Offering wine, coffee, water, cakes and biscuits to whoever pass on the Camino. I am the only one staying here tonight (so far). They invited me to lunch as well as dinner. I was shown the church attached to the Ostello which has archeological work being done including the examination to exhumed pilgrims stomachs to see what they had eaten. There are some photos of the frescoes on the ceiling of the church. Once the archeological work has been compiled then they will do a study on if it is possible to restore or just preserve what is there already.Read more
