    Iceland

    June 2, 2023 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

12 hour layover in Iceland. I got off the plane and hit the ground running. I immediately grabbed a rental car and took off for the blue lagoon spa. What a great idea. After being stuck in a plane, getting out and enjoying a nice hot shower and bath is. Absolutely. Incredible. Probably one of the best things I did in Iceland just because of the contrast of plane vs spa. I’m so happy I did that first instead of doing that at the end!!!

Afterwards I was refreshed and I took off for the golden circle. This was my first experience travelling alone and the freedom of being independent and having a car was awesome!!!!!!! Iceland is a dream to drive in: open roads, very few traffic lights, and large expansive routes. What a great time.

I stopped by Thingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss falls and had a burger along the way. Great layover.

Finally, I ended up in Reykjavik. I ate at a touristy place and (controversially) ate whale and puffin for the first time. Idk if I loved the restaurant…everything tasted kinda raw. Food in Iceland is pricy! Next time, I’ll go to the Michelin guide restaurant. Also I gotta try the hotdog apparently. Again, next time. I walked around Reykjavik a bit before heading back to the airport to drop off the car. Reykjavik is nice but really really small.

The only downside was the airport. I decided to just sleep at the airport instead of getting a room because rooms were expensive and I was only there for a short time. I don’t know if that was a mistake, but the airport was really really uncomfortable. They only had hard plastic seats and even with earplugs+sleep mask, it was just a really really unpleasant experience.

  • Day 5–9

    Haarlem

    June 5, 2023 in the Netherlands ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

We stayed in Haarlem for roughly 4 nights. It’s a beautiful town on the outskirts of Amsterdam. James met up with us there. It was super peaceful and very quaint. On the first night, we decided to buy stuff for a salami cheese plate. We also went to a smoke shop and smoked a ton of joints for a few hours. That was really fun, and we laughed a lot trying to outdo each other by purposefully attempting to be cheesier than the previous person while lighting up. Really fun timeRead more

  • Day 6

    Amsterdam

    June 6, 2023 in the Netherlands ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

We used Haarlem as a home base while we ventured out and explored Amsterdam and various neighborhoods around Haarlem. I'm really glad we did that - Amsterdam itself was a bit crowded and super full of tourists. It's nice as a place to go to, but I wouldn't necessarily want to stay there. It was really nice though, lots of biking infrastructure and aesthetic canals.

We went to see the Rijksmuseum, we took a Canal tour, and we drank beers at a Windmill brewery which was pretty cool. We also explored the main park for a bit. Ugh...I bought tickets for the canal thing for the wrong week. Luckily I was able to buy new tickets but that was really stupid on my part.

We also tried shrooms on another day when we went to the park. Unfortunately, they did not work well. This is probably because we ate stroopwaffles. The sugar apparently counteracts the effects of the shrooms. And they weren't exactly shrooms either - they were technically truffles. I don't really know the difference but they were red colored, looked artificial and tasted awful. I wouldn't do that again.

Also...drama. Everything was great and we were having a ton of fun getting drunk together until Alexa started crying. I think that her drunken state lowered her inhibitions and she started talking about how she needed Graham to convert to Christianity and that was a really important thing to her. She had never brought this up before. What a nightmare. And she was talking to James and crying the whole time which really sucked because James had just gotten out of a long term relationship himself and did not need that drama.

  • Day 8–11

    Berlin

    June 8, 2023 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

After Amsterdam, we took a train to Berlin. We took hella edibles for that train trip. We stayed at Lino's Mom's place in berlin. Though we didn't get to meet her, her apartment was incredibly nice. I loved the plant aesthetics she had. I want a big tree in my future house! Also, I like the way she combined multiple of the same plants to create a kind of bush. Very cool.

In Berlin we saw some historical sights like the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, the Reichstag, the Memorial to Murdered Jews, and finally we partied until the morning the next day.

Berlin clubs has some elitist shit going on...the bouncer takes one look at you and decides if you're allowed to go in or not. The first club we went to denied us because we made the mistake of speaking english. The second one allowed us to go in. Lino did the talking. It was a cool scene, but I didn't enjoy leaving the club at 7am with the birds out. Walking out was a weird mix of morning joggers and tired party goers.
