  • Geneva

    March 3, 2022 in Switzerland ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

Long trip. Very different. Dubai airport was almost empty, more people waiting in Geneva arrivals hall compared to travellers. I think the world will take a long time to get back to people travelling as they used to.Read more

  • Another blissful day in Geneva

    March 5, 2022 in Switzerland ⋅ ☀️ 2 °C

Such a beautiful day today. Cold and brittle, but sunshine so lovely. Caught up with an old book fiend and movie star early in the day. Then John Calvin and friends. On for a walk through the old Geneva and along le lac. Was amazed to find there is a university for "Duffushes". Pity, there was a chance for me and I missed it. :).Read more

In the beautiful town of Montreux where Freddie Mercury recorded 5 albums. Visited the Casino where the studio has been made into a place to visit Queen memorabilia . Tried my hand at mixing. Found Freddie statue. Then a walk along the lake to Chillom chateaux.Read more

  • Berneuse.

    March 7, 2022 in Switzerland ⋅ ☀️ -4 °C

What a great suggestion Claudia. By fast train to Aigle, then a fun little cog train to Leysin, an alpine village snuggled into the side of the Alps. A 500 metres walk down to ticket station and gondola ride to top of Berneuse.
Again, so lucky, beautiful sunny day and could see forever. Sat watching eager skiers on pristine slopes. Small envy that I didn't have any skis with me.
    Lunch in Kuklos revolving restaurant.
Then when our eyes satiated, gondola to bottom and a very steep walk back to cog train. Fantastic.

  • Jungfrau

    March 9, 2022 in Switzerland ⋅ ☀️ -4 °C

The sun shone again for us. Was minus 3 early but on mountain side was not really cold. We had an amazing day, leaving Interlaken early to take several trains via Lauterbrunnen to the top of Jungfrau. Found Scrat and his acorn frozen on the mountain top. Back via a Gondola to Grindelwald, a very pretty Swiss village.Read more

A 50minutes and 3 changes of gondola to Matterhorn glacier paradise (Klein Matterhorn). Remarkable scenery, very cold at minus 5.
Went to see the ice sculptures, then up via lift to top viewing platform. Freezing, and back to take lift down. Oh oh, 5 others there and lift not working. After 10minutes, security arrives via an outside staircase. So, follow we do. Down stairs, outside, view of rocks and snow through the metal stairs. Loved it.Read more

Yesterday our final train journey in Switzerland. St Moritz to Zurich airport. Trains a fabulous way to get around Europe. Sitting at Zurich airport for a flight to LHR. Then on to Bergen Norway. A 2 year round circle, we escaped before Norway closed her borders on 15th March 2020. Hopefully, we will get to finish our trip of 2 years ago. Love to all. xxooRead more

  • Déjà vu Bergen 2 years on.

    March 18, 2022 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

Well, walking across gangway I had a very very strange feeling. 2 years ago they called an urgent meeting where we were all told to get off the ship and make our plans as soon as possible to get back to our home countries.
This is not same ship as 2 years ago, but looks much the same.
    Fingers crossed this time.

  • Ålesund

    March 20, 2022 in Norway ⋅ ☀️ 8 °C

Ship arrived around 9:45 in Ålesund.
We didn't have any excursions booked for morning, so went for a walk. Then saw steps leading up to a building a long the side of a steep hill. You can see the steps leading up in one of the photos.
So I walked up the 400 plus steps to top to fantastic views of fjords.
Afternoon excursion took us to Aquarium and then the bus drove to same place I had hiked to in the morning.
I was pleased as gave Colin the chance to look at the WW2 Bunkers built during the German occupation.

North Cape tick off. Now done. Finally fulfilled today. Beautiful snowscape scenery to and from. Colin has chosen 2 houses he will put an offer on. One comes with free air conditioning. Other, isolated paradise, and has a wood stove. Trouble is, no wood in site. Must be his Sami heritage.Read more

Various pictures. Fantastic Husk ride. Love those dogs so much. They get really eager whilst waiting to get started.
Next, beautiful ice hotel photos , you can book and stay in one of the rooms. Trouble is, you get warm and snug in bed, but need to go to an outside toilet if you need one in middle of the night.
There was also the chance to feed a reindeer.

The ship left us thete and we caught it 75 kl later at another port.Further south, in Svolvær, we happened on an amazing WW2 museum, a collection by one man.Read more

  • Codliver Oil

    March 28, 2022 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ -1 °C

Well, even before breakfast, as a treat for going out on deck as we once again passed the Artic circle southbound, we were given a teaspoon of cod liver oil. Humm.
Most of day we were cruising, however at Brønnøysund, we docked for 2.5 hours and decided to walk the 3.5 kilometers into town with blustery winds and tiny balls of snow peppering us in the face, stopped at a small supermarket to buy an icecream to eat on way back to ship. No worries about it melting.Read more

Our early morning stop, last real stop before Bergen tomorrow, where we disembark and head straight to airport to get our flight to France.
I was never a person to know what can be seen in certain art. Local ferry terminal and yellow peril.
A building dedicated to making green energy, they make enough to power the electric buses that fill up at the overhead power plug.
    Lovely tranquil yatch harbour.
Understandably national VIP Leif who got to northern America long before certain others.
A Viking island on entry to harbour , or exit, if you were one of the unlucky to have a certain goodbye to Valhalla .
