    Reelfoot Lake State Park

Now, this is why one should always arrive at their destination early! We only had a 3 hour drive. The many fields of corn along the way were beautiful emerald green...so healthy with the rain we've had! When we arrived we had time to visit the small museum and answer our burning question... Did the Mississippi River really flow backward for 3 days during the earthquakes (4 months of them!!!) that created Reelfoot Lake?? Eyewitnesses said the earth flowed like a sea! Maybe not 3 days... but it was chaos! Glad I wasn't there then. I'm very happy to be here now! We also took a walk along the lovely boardwalk. We have a beautiful campsite overlooking the lake...sitting next to my love, listening to the waves lapping the shore and the birds chirping. Currently on eagle watch. We see only a few mosquitoes, and so far, they've shown no interest in us! We do have a repellant gizmo ready to try if needed! We are level, so we didn't need to unhook the camper. Heading out in the morning to Bull Shoals Arkansas to meet up with John and Stephanie. Can't wait! Oh, the fun we'll have...

    Amy Taking Photos
Everywhere we go, My Lovely takes photos. . . . And I take photos of her taking photos.

Her photos photos are of fabulous scenes, lakes, trees, wildlife, rock formation or a beautiful church. She takes some amazing vibrant photos. Beautiful.

My photos are of her enjoying life. Loving where she is. Marking the spot. Documenting the memory. You can't really see it in carbon of the memory card of my phone, but it is embossed in the carbons of my brain and emblazoned on my heart.

I have pictures of her taking pictures everywhere we have been together (not that I need them); and when I see them, and see something different than what my camera captured. I see the smile on her face 45 seconds later. I hear her voice pitched up one notch. I feel her touch as she hands me her phone to show me where her eye went.

Amy's photos are lovely. Mine are love.

  • Mr Duck

Mr Duck paid us a very social call during coffee this morning....I think he was hoping for some breakfast! Shortly after, Pat spotted something swimming and a baby river otter climbed up and over the cypress knees in front of us! So cute! I was not able to get a picture. Lots of great blue heron and egret activity too! Absolutely loved this campground. Reelfoot Lake State Park, South CG , site 17. This morning we head to Bull Shoals Arkansas.

  • Bull Shoals White River State Park

Lovely campsite overlooking the river just below the dam. It was warm today so we went to the swimming "beach" recommended by the visitor center...maybe they keep the good beaches secret for locals. ;) It was basically an extended boat ramp area that they used as a beach. It was nice to get wet and cool down, but we didn't stay long. We headed back to the camper where we sat in the shade and did some planning for our hoped for 2024 West trip....

  • Cedar Falls/Canyon Trail

After driving in from Bull Shoals today, we checked out the Visitor Center at Petit Jean State Park while waiting for the tail end of the rain to pass by. Then we set up camp and headed out to see some sights. We started at Mather Lodge , which was beautiful to see. It is perched on a stunning overlook. From there, we took the Cedar Falls trail to the bottom of the canyon...loved it!!! At the bottom, after crossing the creek, we went left and hiked another mile downstream into the canyon. The rain and clouds made the temp comfortable. We eventually turned around and retraced our steps to the lodge. The climb up was moderately difficult. I'm glad we weren't at a higher elevation! After we refilled our water, we drove over to the Cedar Falls overlook. It was a short boardwalk with an awesome view. We took a scenic drive to a couple of overlooks before heading back to the campground and dinner!!

  • Ozark Folk Center

We toured the Ozark Folk Center. The best way to describe it might be as a permanent crafts fair run by the Arkansas State Park System.

We walked from hut to hut to see artisans practice their crafts. From candle making to blacksmithing to quilting. For us the most interesting copper shop. They showed us how the color copper by heating it. Different temperatures of heat causes different colors.

The other thing that really caught my attention was the log cabin that had been donated and moved to the Folk Center. The cabin was maybe 12 x 12 and had been used (lived in) until 1962. From 1902 to 1962 a family and lived on the 1 room cabin. The oldest of the 6 children is still alive and living in a more modern home on the family land.

Of all the things we were told, the most astonishing was that there were 2 nearby communities (towns) that did not get electricity until 1973. The last 2 towns in Arkansas to get electricity.

  • Seven Hollows Trail, Petit Jean State Pk

We were on the trail by 7 am. It's supposed to be over 100 degrees later today! The hike was gorgeous. We only saw 3 other hikers. Including the couple of side trails, we did 5.5 miles in just under 4 hours. It started off very comfortable in the 70s, but by the time we finished it was nearing 90, feeling like 98! Very glad we did it, but boy, were we ready to cool down!
