    First tourist stop this morning was a 12 km detour off the Great Ocean Road. It was very windy up at the lighthouse the wind was 63km and we were told that it can get up to 130km. We certainly were glad we did not visit when is was that windy.

    Cape Otway Lighthouse is the oldest surviving lighthouse on mainland Australia and considered the most significant. The lighthouse was built in 1848, and is known as the ‘Beacon of Hope,’ . It sits 90 metres above the pristine ocean of Bass Strait.

    Hundreds of lives were lost along this shipwreck coast – a sad but fascinating history which led to the building of the Lighthouse on the cliff's edge.
