    We are leaving Sigiriya and heading to Kandy via Dambulla Caves.

    Dambulla Cave Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in the country, with the rock towering 160 meters over the surrounding plains. The temple complex dates back to the first century BCE and has been a significant religious center since then. It was originally constructed as a monastery by King Valagamba of Anuradhapura, who sought refuge in the caves during his exile. After regaining his throne, he transformed the caves into a magnificent rock temple as an act of gratitude.
