    Devonport

    Another great day in Auckland if you disregard the weather. It was wet and windy on our adventure today to Devonport which is a harbourside suburb of Auckland. It is located on the North Shore at the southern end of the peninsula. it is a 12 min ferry ride. We walked up to North Head - Maungauika is a volcano forming headland. This area with its view over the Hauraki Gulf and inner harbour was a lookout and defence site for centuries, first for the early Maori and then the European settlers.Читать далее

    Waiheke Island

    Today was great, we used public transport again this time, including a Hop On Hop Off bus around Waiheke Island. It was a little overcast so you could not appreciate the view back to Auckland or the full surrounds of Waiheke. First stop was a winery called Te Motu we tasted 5 wines and even purchased a bottle. What is different about wine tasting here is that you pay to taste the wine but you do not stand at the bar, you sit down in a beautiful setting overlooking the hills and vineyard. We then walked through the field to the next winery Stoneyridge, again you pay to taste and again in a lovely setting. This time we enjoyed our wine tasting over a nice plate of dips, bread and olives. We then jumped on the Hop on Hop off bus to the Batch winery and Thomas Bach Restaurant. Again we paid for wine tasting but we enjoyed the wines over a delicious lunch. It is a lovely way to taste the wine and experience each vineyard in a special way. After all the wines we tasted we walked around the little township before heading back to the Ferry to go back to Melissa's home. On arrival back home Luke was cooking his speciality Pizza for dinner. We had a wonderful time and starting to feel sad as our holiday is coming to an end in a few days.Читать далее

    Dinner in the Dark

    A lazy morning to start as Melissa was completing a few work tasks and John was mastering Sudoku. Just before lunch we walked along the "Tamaki Drive Walk" from Mission Bay to St Heliers. Before heading back we had fish and chips at a local cafe. At night we went into Auckland CBD and walked around Wynyard Quarter before experiencing "Dinner in the Dark". Dinner at start was a little uncomfortable as everything is black. Once we were used to talking to people around us and eating in the complete dark we then understood what it is like for people who are blind or sight impaired.Читать далее

    Haunted House

    We visited the French Markets in Parnell today they are fabulous. John and Melissa had lots of food samples. While in Parnell we walked around the shopping area. We then went home for the afternoon and dinner. Melissa and Luke had a surprise for our last night and it was so much fun. They took us to "Spookers" which was a haunted house and Forest Walk. Melissa and I had a number of scares but the boys being boys just laughed at us and were not frightened at all just enjoyed the experience.Читать далее

    Camperdown Castle

    Sad day we left Mission Bay after visiting Melissa and Luke for 10 days to come back to Camperdown Castle. We loved our visit to New Zealand we saw many wonderful sights and undertook several exciting activities. We only had a couple of bad weather days so they did not hinder our holiday. Our only issue was 15min after arriving home John realised he had lost a bag which had his phone, sun glasses, credit card and a few bits and pieces, so we are now trying to locate them. Apart from this our holiday and experiences in New Zealand were great and we look forward to going back in the near future.Читать далее
