    Superstition Mountain

    We decided to walk the Lost Goldmine Trail to the Turks Head. It was 64⁰, plenty warm for a walk in the desert. Before we got to the parking lot, a squadron of javelinas crossed the road! Adults, mid size and littles. This was a little too long for our first walk. Legs and hips were really tired.Read more

    We took a walk to our town this morning just to check it out. Mostly galleries and fine arts. Today was Monday so most businesses were closed. Then we took a little drive.

  • Our Tubac stay

    We moved into our place in Tubac. The 'town' is a short 15 minute walk away. The place is part of a complex. Most places are no older than 15 years.

  • Abrego Trail

    We decided to do the Abrego Trail today which is part of the Juan Bautista trail. We passed a desert garden along with a pecan orchard. 75⁰.

    We decide to walk the opposite direction today from the same starting point as yesterday by the Tumacacori site. Beautiful day, we did get warm.

  • Anza Trail from Tubac

    We walked the Anza Trail again today. We turned around right before the 'bridge' we crossed previously. The only animal we saw was a squirrel that scared the crap out of me! Went to town for a beer and water after. Thirsty and tired.Read more

  • Sierra Vista

    We were going to hike in the Patagonia Senoita Creek Preserve but the gates were closed. So we decided to go to Sierra Vista. Once there, we chose to go to the San Pedro Riparian Conservation area where we visited numerous times. It was so warm, 82⁰, that our walk wasn't very long.Read more

  • Tucson and art

    Over the past year, we saved money to create our tile table. Last year we made a wall hanging and absolutely loved it. You pick out tiles that are in small boxes and arrange them in the size you selected. We packed them in. Glorious day, clear and low 80s.Read more

    Today, Chris and I did our usual walk along the Anza Trail while Nikki had some pool time. We all went to the Tomacacari Museum 4 miles away. We decided to go to Rio Rico for a Mexican dinner. It was delicious!Read more

  • Nikki returns home

    Today Nikki had to return to Boston. We stopped at the St. Xavier Mission on the way to Tucson. This site is an old church and surrounding buildings that have been restored. The docent was soo knowledgeable. Unfortunately, I did not take any pics. After this we had lunch then off to the airport.Read more

  • Anza Trail to Gertrudis Trail and beyond

    We did another 4 mile walk today. Coolest day so far, only 63⁰. Grasses along the river are really growing. Trees are leafing out and birds are arriving. At some points, you could hear 4 different birds just chirping away. Cedar waxwing, Cardinal, lesser goldfinch, woodpecker and others.Read more

  • Richard Williams Trail

    We drove south about 4 miles to the Richard Williams Trail and walked north up to the Santa Cruz board crossing. We've been to this point numerous times but from the other direction. This trail went along a railroad for a while. We did see 4 deer, smaller and grayer than ours. Nice day, no wind.Read more

    We did not walk on Friday as it was raining!! A few snow flurries mixed in. The mountains to the east got some!
    We walked on Saturday, but nothing spectacular. Just had to get out.

  • Anza Trail from Tomacacari

    Today's walk was almost 5 miles. We are determined to walk from this street to our town and back before we leave. It's a total of 7 miles!! We need a cooler day and will bring water!
    It appeared that the Santa Cruz was a little muddier and deeper than before. Although it's not a very big river.Read more

  • Javelinas, finally

    Today we finally saw javelinas that were close enough to photo! Clear day, rather warm when we returned. Heard and saw a northern cardinal and some variety of bunting.

  • Anza Trail

    We went on our usual Anza Trail walk today. We cross the river on 4 boards and then turn around at a gate about . 25 miles later. If we go thru the gate, we will end up at the Tumacacori Mission. No javelinas and no deer.
    It's been cool and rainy the last couple of days so this was our first walk in a couple of days.

  • Richard Williams Trail

    We walked the Richard Williams Trail again today. Went out 2.5 miles and then back. Nothing spectacular. Trees are leafing. Trail is getting dry even after the rain. Lots of people walking.

  • Canoa Ranch Trail

    We chose to walk this trail today. We had been on part of it last year but from the other direction. It was 76⁰ when we started and 88⁰ when we ended. A little too warm for a desert walk with no shade.Read more

  • Last Anza Trail walk

    We left the Tumacacori Mission at 10:50 for our last walk this year. 63⁰ but way better than 80⁰! We headed south. Trees, shrubs and grasses are really getting going. We saw a small deer feeding in the river. All he did was look at us! We turned back after walking 2+ miles. A huge beetle was on the path. We continued beyond our starting point and turned around at the gate. Now we only had 1 more mile to go before we could sit in the car! Great last day!Read more

  • Baseball in Mesa

    Today all 6 of us went to the A's bb game at Hohokam Stadium. 82⁰ sunny and no wind. A couple of childhood friends parked next to us. The guys took our pic! At the game we meet a gal and her 2 sisters. They have 3 more sisters and 2 brothers. Another big family! A's won the game in the bottom of the 9th on a safe slide at home plate. Final score 4-3!Read more

  • Baseball in Mesa

    Today was a baseball day in Mesa, Athletics vs Brewers. Sal and Sean flew in yesterday. Beautiful day, sunny and no wind. 83⁰. Pam and Jim met us at the ballpark. We met two guys who were Brewers fans and childhood friends since junior high. They parked beside us and took a pic of us! The A's won the game in the bottom of the ninth on a safe call at home plate. Final score was 4-3!!!Read more

    The butterfly room was so cool. Nice and warm and humid. Butterflies everywhere. This was within the Botanical Gardens.

    These are pics inside the orchid room. As I entered my mouth fell open. It was stunning! Some were so unique. Some orchids were sent here from Hawaii in various stages of growth so the display would always be beautiful. I may have to try growing these again!!Read more
