A wetland is a landscape saturated with water. Wetlands include marshes, swamps, bods, and ponds.

Wetlands store and slowly release water, reducing erosion and flood damage. They also help to recharge groundwater, providing necessary water flow in dry years.

An acre of wetland can store 1-1.5 million gallons of floodwater.

Up to half of North American bird species nest or feed in wetlands.Read more
