Gili T

After a relaxing few days snorkelling, diving and catching the sun on Gili Air, we decided to hop over to the busier Gili Trawangan, also known as Gili T. Gili T is considered to be the party Island although to be honest it didn’t really feel like that. Yes it was busier than Gili Air and had a night life but it was also just a really nice island with a more lively vibe on the east side and relaxing vibe to the west. The first day we checked in to our accommodation, grabbed some bicycles and cycled around the island taking a little under an hour. Gili T is more developed than Gili Air so we were able to cycle almost the whole way around on a pavement amongst pedestrians, horse and carts and other cyclists. As Gili T is bigger than Gili Air, bicycles are a must to get around.
We’ve enjoyed some beautiful sunsets whilst having dinner, as well as a live music night. On the first night we spontaneously joined a pub bar crawl. It was a laugh and gave us a chance to meet some new people, but perhaps wouldn’t rush back to do it again. We were out until midnight, however other people had a far messier night. The following morning whilst eating breakfast in our hostel bar, an Irish guy we had met on bar crawl walked in. We were surprised to see him again as we didn’t know we had been staying at the same hostel. Turns out we weren’t and the guy couldn’t remember how he got to our hostel, had no phone, money or clothes and was just standing in the hostel bar in his boxer shorts. It turns out he must have just walked into the hostel and found a bed. He ended up using Jess' phone to contact his friends (although they were about to get on a ferry to Bali) and then left to go back to his hotel. We were then due to move hostels that day. Walking into a new hostel literally just across the road from our current place, we saw two girls we'd met on the bar crawl. After telling them the story about the Irish guy, they laughed saying they were actually with him and witnessed him wander into our previous hostel, across the road, that night having assumed he was a guest. It turns out that the girls’ hostel receptionist had kept his clothes and mobile phone behind the bar although why he wasn’t wearing his clothes we were unsure. Realising this, we managed to contact the Irish guy’s friend back on Jess' phone and luckily they managed to get in touch with him. He returned to collect his items from our new hostel a while later. Luck was definitely on his side with so many events coincidentally going his way. It was only by chance we walked into a new hostel and got chatting to the two girls to realise they had his belongings. As you can imagine he was extremely grateful for our help albeit a little embarrassed. Definitely a story!Läs mer
