• Cruz de Ferro and Molinaseca

    15.–16. maj 2024, Spanien ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

I waited for the rain to clear and then set out for Foncebadon. It was uphill, quite rocky and uneven but I enjoyed it. I stopped at Foncebadon for a coffee and snack. It was raining and sleeting outside. When it calmed down I walked to Cruz de Ferro, it wasn't far from Foncebadon. As I walked it started to snow! Thankfully only for a short time.

Cruz de Ferro is on Monte Irago, the Camino's highest point. It's an ancient pagan ritual site topped with a sacred oak tree trunk and iron cross. With ancient roots that precede Christianity, the Cruz de Ferro is considered the most ancient monument of the Camino.

The downhill from Cruz de Ferro was okay at first, then really steep and rocky and muddy. I walked on the road for some time to save my feet.

There was a food truck not far down, and I met up with Patti again. Such a coincidence because we walked from different villages, and her phone had died and wasn't receiving my messages.

We walked to El Acebo (very challenging) and asked at the bar for a taxi. We caught the taxi to Molinaseca, saving us walking another 8km. A good day and very satisfying!

    18km walk Challenging day.
