• Victorian Railway Style 🚂

    July 20, 2024 in India ⋅ 🌧 29 °C

Avgeek meets train geek and history lover 🚂 at this stop on my private tour of Mumbai. I got out and had a walk around to explore the old Victoria Station in Mumbai. Still a working station built by the British it was beautiful outside and just what you think an Indian train station would be like inside - a mix of organised chaos and sleeping bodies. My driver reckons the stuff the British built will live forever while stuff Indians built will collapse in 10 years (not racist cause he said it?). Despite the huge class differences everywhere you look my attention keeps getting drawn to the dogs chilling everywhere on various states of despair.

Next time I visit India (for more than a day) a rail journey is definitely on the cards. Ideally leaving from a grand old station like this one. They definitely don’t make them like they used to. Love these old buildings. This one is a UNESCO heritage site.
