Google, where are you taking me?

Despite working yesterday, CarPlay isn’t playing today so I plug in my next hotel into my phone GPS (I can’t find it on the car one in Romanian). 144km, estimated 2hrs 14mins. Easy… or so I thought. My first clue should have been when it took me past the on-ramp to the freeway. Oh well - google knows best right?

What it had done was avoid an accident causing delays on the freeway. Makes sense, but it took me on a small country road over some hills. Amazing views of the mountains across the corn fields but the narrow windy roads were interesting… especially when it became a gravel road.

Passing through small villages there was really only room for 1 car between the walls of the houses/gardens on each side. Fortunately nothing came the other way in the villages as it would have been a struggle. I think it’s just because this car is bigger than I’m used to, but I have no idea of how close to the curb I am on the right side. A few minor wheel bumps of curbs may have occurred in these tight streets. Glad I took out the full instance cover 😂

Meanwhile while google may have diverted me around the accident, but making a left hand turn back into that now bumper to bumper traffic was a challenge. I managed to squeeze in beside a truck then someone let me in.

The rest of the drive was very congested with lots of traffic in both directions. If you’re driving black BMW’s in Romania it seems to be a rally race, darting in and out in front of oncoming traffic. I pass heaps of towns on the way. In many of these towns stalks (the bird) have made massive nests on top of the power poles! Such a sight but didn’t want to stop to take a picture as wouldn’t have got back in the traffic.

Getting closer to Brasov google instructed me to make a left hand turn into a street that I’d describe as someone’s driveway. Given the signs and all the traffic was going straight, I ignored it and went with the flow. After a whopping 4hours of driving I made it to Brasov! The driving time here was really underestimated! I’ve got an apartment here which is very new and modern. Time for some sleep and then tomorrow off to visit Dracula 🧛‍♂️.Read more
