Mexico City 1 - Uber day

Gestern Abend habe ich dann endlich noch meine Bettnachbarin Anna aus Russland kennengelernt und wieder ein netter Mensch mehr, mit dem man sich austauschen kann. Genauso alt wie ich und seit Monaten unterwegs.

Ich habe schön ausgeschlafen, denn der Bus ging erst um 11:30h. Gemütlich gepackt, 2 Straßen zur nächsten Bushaltestelle gelaufen und mit dem ÖPNV für 50ct zum ADO Busterminal für Fernreisen gefahren.
Die Fahrt ging dann sehr kurvig immer nach oben durch eine neue Landschaft: Berge und Vulkane.
Nach 5h merkt man, dass Mexiko City = CDMX (Ciudad de Mexico) anfängt. Die Außenbezirke fangen bei einer 20 Millionenstadt früh an und erst recht, wenn die Häuser max. 2 Stockwerke haben. Da braucht es viel Fläche für so viele Menschen.
TAPO ist dann diese riesige Bushaltestelle im Zentrum. Wahnsinnsteil. Wie ein Flughafen.
Ich kenn ja nix von Mexico City und muss jetzt den nächsten Schritt schaffen. Von hier zum Hostel kommen und das mit diesem echt (zu) großen Koffer. Von Taxis hab ich gehört, dass die einen oft abziehen. Also lieber nicht. Metro, hmm, zuviel heckmeck mit dem Koffer. Es gibt hier Schilder da steht drauf: Taxi seguro = sicheres Taxi. Das wäre eine Möglichkeit. Man zahlt vorab, bekommt eine Nummer und ein Taxi bringt einen sicher ans Ziel. Die Schlange ist ellenlang. Es gibt noch eine Möglichkeit: ...ein Uber (eine Art Privattaxi).
Mein erstes Uber in Mexico, mein 2. Mal überhaupt. Erstmal gucken, wo ich mich hinstelle. Dann Uber bestellen. Als ich die App aufmache, wird mir ein Preis von 97 Pesos genannt (knapp 5€) angezeigt. Das zahle ich doch gerne, für knapp 25 Min Transportweg. Als ich die Fahrt bestätigen will, zeigt es aber plötzlich 250 Pesos an. Häh?
Wie gut, dass ich gestern Andreas & Co kennengelernt habe, denn die haben sowas schon erwähnt. Plötzlich springt der Preis in die Höhe, dann soll ich ein paar Minuten warten, dann geht er wieder runter. Also 10 Minuten gewartet und siehe da, der Preis ist jetzt wieder runter. Jetzt bei 107 Pesos. Ich bestätige und 7 Minuten später sitze ich im Uber-Wagen und werde ganz geschmeidig bis vor die Tür vom Hostel (Suites DF Hostel) gefahren.

Das liegt in der Colonia (= Stadtteil bzw. Kietz) Tabacalera, recht nah am Zentrum, aber ruhig in einer Nebenstraße. 5 Bett Frauenschlafsaal, sehr nett und sehr sauber mit 3 Mädels aus Quebec.
10€/Nacht, inkl. Frühstück.

Ich denke, dass ich es mir etwas gemütlich mache, draußen ist es ja schon dunkel, und mich einrichte. Vielleicht nochmal kurz raus für was zu Essen.
Prompt bekomme ich eine WhatsApp von Saloua und Gloria, den beiden Frauen, die ich in Mérida kennengelernt hatte. Ich soll zum Essen kommen, sie seien in einem Restaurant in Colonia Roma und Gloria sei nur noch 2 Stunden hier.
Ich überlege: wie soll ich dahin kommen und weiß nicht recht. Ich wollte doch Abends nicht alleine rausgehen... "nimm ein Uber!" wird mir gesagt. Also gut. Warum nicht.
Wieder ein Uber bestellt und ab zu Mog Bistro.
Und es hat sich gelohnt. Das Essen war top, die Mädels gut drauf und ich hab mein erstes kleines Abenteuer gehabt... und das erste Mal ne Grille gegessen 🤣
Mit dem 3. Uber des heutigen Tages begleite ich Gloria später noch zur Busstation und werde dann wieder zum Hostel gefahren. Ich unterhalte mich mit dem Fahrer Saul und er ist total begeistert als er von meiner Reise hört.

Ich habe Gloria erzählt, dass ich merkwürdige Kopfschmerzen habe und sie meinte, dass das an der Höhe (wir sind auf 2300m) liegen kann. Ich sollte mir ein Getränk mit Elektrolythen besorgen. Das könnte helfen.
Während ich also mit Saul quatsche und er bereits vorm Hostel hält, fällt mir ein, dass ich ja noch zum Kiosk wollte. Er besteht darauf, dass er mich hinfährt. 2 Ecken weiter ist ein Kiosk, er lässt mich raus und ich meine: "danke, ich kann ja die paar Meter zum Hostel laufen". Er: "nein, ich warte hier auf dich und fahre dich wieder zum Hostel. Es ist ja schon spät "(22:30h).
Wie nett!!! Und er will auch keine Bezahlung, weil ich ihm den Abend mit meiner Geschichte so versüßt habe und überhaupt, wenn irgendwas ist ruf mich an! Brauchst du Hilfe, hast du Fragen, schreib dir meine Nummer auf!
Die Leute sind einfach sooo nett!

Jetzt bin ich wieder im Hostel und erzähle euch wie mein erster Tag war: nämlich ganz hervorragend 😍

Last night I finally got to know my bed neighbor Anna from Russia and another nice person with whom you can exchange ideas. Same age as me and been traveling for months.

I slept well because the bus didn't leave until 11:30. Packed comfortably, walked 2 streets to the nearest bus stop and took public transport for 50ct to the ADO bus terminal for long-distance travel.
The ride then went very curvy up through a new landscape: mountains and volcanoes.
After 5 hours you realize that Mexico City = CDMX (Ciudad de Mexico) begins. The outskirts start early in a city of 20 million people, and even more so when the houses have a maximum of 2 floors. It takes a lot of space for so many people.
TAPO is then this huge bus stop in the center. Amazing thing. Gigantic, Like an airport.
I don't know anything about Mexico City and now I have to take the next step. Coming from here to the hostel with this really (too) big suitcase. I've heard that taxis often try to ripp you off. So maye better not. Metro, hmm, too much trouble with the suitcase. There are signs here that say: Taxi seguro = safe taxi. That would be one possibility. You pay in advance, get a number and a taxi will take you safely to your destination. The cue is long. There is another option: ...an Uber (a kind of private taxi).
My first Uber in Mexico, my 2nd time ever. First I try to find a place where I can wait for the Uber. Then order Uber. When I open the app, a price of 97 pesos (almost €5) is displayed. I'm happy to pay for that, for just under 25 minutes of transport. Though when I want to confirm the trip, it suddenly shows 250 pesos. huh?
How good that I got to know Andreas & Co yesterday, because they already mentioned something like that. Suddenly the price jumps up, then I'm supposed to wait a few minutes, then it goes down again. So waited 10 minutes and lo and behold, the price is down again. Now at 107 pesos. I confirm and 7 minutes later I'm in the Uber and am being driven smoothly to the front of the hostel (Suites DF Hostel).

This is in the Colonia (= part of the city or Kietz) Tabacalera, quite close to the centre, but in a quiet side street. 5 bed female dorm, very nice and very clean with 3 girls from Quebec.
10€/night, including breakfast.

I think I'll make myself a little comfortable, it's already dark outside. Maybe go out again for something to eat. I promptly get a WhatsApp from Saloua and Gloria, the two women I met in Mérida. I am supposed to come to dinner, they are in a restaurant in Colonia Roma and Gloria is only here for 2 hours. I'm thinking: how am I supposed to get there and I don't really know if I should... I didn't want to go out alone in the night... "take an Uber!" i am told. All right then. Why not. Ordered another Uber and off to Mog Bistro. And it was worth it. The food was great, the girls in a good mood and I had my first little adventure... and ate a cricket for the first time 🤣

With the 3rd Uber of today I accompany Gloria later to the bus station and then I am driven back to the hostel. I chat with the driver, Saul, and he's really loves it when he hears about my trip.
I told Gloria I had a weird headache and she said it might be because of the altitude (we're at 2300m). I should get myself a drink with electrolytes. That might help. So while I'm chatting with Saul and he's already stopping in front of the hostel, I remember that I wanted to go to the kiosk. He insists on driving me there. 2 corners away is a kiosk, he lets me out and I say: "thank you, I can walk the few meters to the hostel". He: "No, I'll wait for you here and drive you back to the hostel. It's already late" (10:30 p.m.). How nice!!! And he doesn't want any payment either because I made his evening so sweet with my story and anyway, if anything is wrong, call me! If you need help, if you have any questions, write down my number!
