• Trip to Carlisle

    October 20, 2024 in England ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

This morning, we get up early and drive Chenaya and Bryce to catch a train for Manchester. They will go from there to Heathrow and then fly home tomorrow.

Tammi, Bruce,John, and I got to the Carlisle cathedral where we attended a choral Eucharest. The pipe organ and choir sounded spectacular in the cathedral. It was great to go through the Church of England Eucherist service.

After the service, we explored the cathedral more and learned about the early Christian history of this area. They have many priceless artifacts from centuries ago on display.

The area was inhabited by the Romans around the same time as the Apostle Paul died. There is some evidence of Christian belief found among the artifacts from that time. Haidrians wall runs just north of Carlisle.

Much of the early settlements were lost to Viking raids in the 700s.

After our tour, we had lunch in the Cathedral Cafe and planned our return trop to Saint Bees.

We return via a different route which takes us through the Western Lakes District. There are mountains (small) and lakes in this area. Very picturesque and obviously a popular place for hiking.

We pick up lamb for dinner tonight and head back to the cottage for some rest, and a quiet night after all of the excitement ad activities of the previous days.
