    Day 1: Travelling to Wacken

    August 3, 2016 in Germany ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

Collecting the crew in Villingen, Offenburg and Willstätt our trip finally began at 9:30 AM. The car full stuffed with evident things our first traffic jam was clearly at the Elbtunnel in Hamburg short after improving the rear window. All because of these silly guys asking where we are heading to. I won't forget that we tuned the track for refuelling, which was incidentally the idea that safed the day, and crossing Pinneberg. At 7:30 PM we left the motorway and thought that we finally made it... But none of us could expect the following hours. As decent germans we followed the deviation to the open air ground not knowing that this route would lead to the worst traffic jam each of us ever suffered. You may correct me if I am wrong with the estimated numbers but I think we could roll every 30 minutes at most 200 meters on a length of four kilometers to the camping site. Lucky us, we had enough beer and ravioli in the car :)Read more

    Day 2: Entering the festival

    August 4, 2016 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

I can't remember when we entered the festival ground but it was way after 2 AM and the jam still held on. The cause of the jam were the many people arriving in Wacken and the bad condotion of the meadows. This was the last thing we were told before entering the camping area X: "Die Straße ist am Arsch. Wenn ihr gleich auf den Platz fahrt darfst du nicht vom Gas gehen. Wenn du einmal stecken bleibst, ist es aus dann muss dich der Traktor wieder herausziehen. Vorne gibt es eine 90 Grad Kurve und danach werdet ihr auf euren Platz geleitet. Jetzt ist die Straße frei. Go go go go go go..." And we got our place. And it was good. After setting up two throw tents, one pavilion and a big princess tent, I decided to sleep in the car. I think it was 7:30 AM when everything stood and we decided to take a short rest before checking in and getting our "Bändel"s and the full metal bags.
At the afternoon we conquered the Wackinger Village, before the first high light ,Iron Maiden, started to rock. Wet and imressing. Short words but fully describing.
