• The Merritt House

The hotel we chose for this visit to Monterey is the Merritt House. It is one of the many historic houses here in the heart of Old Monterey. The central house was built in the 1830s by Josiah Merritt, the first judge in Monterey. Since the 1970s, other buildings very similar in style to the main house, have been built around it. Our home for the week is in one of these buildings.

As much as we love the beauty and the history of this place. The reason I chose it is because it is close to our first apartment, only half a block from here. We went to the building where I bought my blue jeans and shirt from JCPenney. It is now a Walgreens Pharmacy. This evening we walked there to pick up a flat of water and a bottle of Tylenol for Glenda. After that, we had a wonderful supper at an authentic English pub called the Crown and Anchor. Glenda had a shepherds pie, and I had a Reuben sandwich with a British oatmeal stout.

So now we’re back in the hooch resting up to get ready for what tomorrow holds.
