    Saturday 2026-05-30

    We had to get some groceries. But first an indoor market in Mossel Bay. Lovely. Not your typical flea market with the same rubbish from China in every second shop. Dries treated me to a proper thick winter's jacket made in Nepal. Fleece inside. Patch knitting outside. The wool is a bit hard but who cares? The inside is soft and fluffy. Love it! Real boho style.

    And a massive traffic jam on the way back! 🤣
    The rest of the day is going to be filled with knitting, watching sport, and braai. The braaimaster is going to braai a snoek today. Homebaked bread made by me. And jewel sweet potatoes with muscovado. Yummy.    Read more

    Slow Saturday 2026-05-23

    May 23 in South Africa ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

    Slow Saturdays are sacred in this life.

    We started with a lazy lie-in — no apologies — and eventually persuaded ourselves to take a drive. The knitting came along, as it always does on road trips. Some people have travel sweets. I have yarn.

    First stop: The Island. One road in, barely wide enough to take seriously. Excuse the language in the video.

    Then out to Grootbrak and Kleinbrak, where we found Pine Creek caravan park — beautiful stands right on the river. That one is going on the list.

    Brunch at Meet on Sea with the ocean doing exactly what you want an ocean to do when you are eating brunch next to it.

    The beaches are covered in driftwood. Two weeks ago this coastline took a battering — 73 knot winds, flooding, rivers where there were none. Nature left its mark. It is a good reminder that this landscape is not a backdrop. It is alive and it does what it wants.

    A good Saturday. The best kind — unhurried, unplanned, and entirely worth documenting.    Read more

    Dis vandag presies 'n jaar.
    En vandag het gelyk soos in die videos.
    Ons kan maar net lag. Wat moet ons nou anders doen?
    More sal ons opruim en die kamp oorbou. Dan is die mislike wind en weer verby.

    The Storm

    May 12 in South Africa ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

    It was hectic, scary and traumatising. We had winds of around 140km/h. Seven trees fell over - not one of those on anybody's car or caravan. Praise God for that. We have damage but we cannot properly assess it just yet. It is Tuesday today and it is still raining. We will probably only start cleaning up on Thursday. Until then our tent is somewhat dilapidated, but hey, we have food, coffee and a warm bed. So all is well. Even though we are feeling a bit bruised and battered.Read more

    Ons wou 'n brekkie gaan eet, toe loop ons by Elvis Brew in. Ietsie anders. Die knypkoeke was heerlik en die koffie ook.
    Inkopies vir die Kaapse winter! Reen enkelstewels vir ons altwee en ietsie vir 'n bietjie hitte as dit koud raak. En 'n nuwe blikkie vir my naalde! My ou een het goed geroes in Kleinmond.
    En toe remodel ons die kombuis! Drie kleiner tafels instede van twee grotes.    Read more

    Dis wat ons gesien het toe ons vanoogend die tent oopmaak. Die hele wereld was gebaai in 'n pienk gloed.
    Ons wag vir die reen en ons bid dat die wind hierdie naweek okay sal wees.
    Ons het iets geleer. "Red in the morning, sailor's warning. Red in the night, sailor's delight".
    Daai mooi rooi en pienk so vroeg oggend, bring wilde storms! Goeiste!    Read more

    De Postkantoor - Tesselaarsdal

    Ons moes net eenvoudig uitry Tesselaarsdal toe. Die pad soontoe is ongelooflik mooi. Baie grondpad, tot Dries se verdriet. Piepklein dorpie. Die mooiste eetplek. Kyk net die vet hond wat ons vanaf die stoepmuur verwelkom het. Hiernatoe sal ons weer terug kom. Die kos was uit 'n ander wereld. Dries het The Postmaster's Breakfast gehad. Ek het Vegetarian Pancakes gehad. Kyk die baie kos!Read more

    Kleinmond storm

    March 25 in South Africa ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

    Laasnag het Kleinmond 'n windstorm gekry met winde van meer as 72 km per uur. Ons het 3 uur wakker geword van die wind en toe is dit skielik chaos. Dries het hierdie tent so goed geanker dat die wind die stiksels van die tent stukkend geruk het. Ek en Dries het die pale probeer vas hou en dan tel die wind ons albei in die lug op. Dit was wild. Dis nou die nie-so-lekker deel van kamp.
    Maar te midde van die chaos is ons bederf met die wildeperde van Kleinmond; hulle was op die strand!
    Ons het heelgemaak wat ons kan maar ons het nou nie meer 'n stoep nie. Daai panele sal moet gaan vir herstelwerk. Ons het skoon gemaak; mens kon sien 'n stofstorm was hier deur. Nou gaan ek sit. En bietjie brei. En nou nou, gaan ek 'n groot glas wyn drink.    Read more
