    Cought up in the gold rush of 1820, Davis found that two miners in Williams creek where mining 212 feet of gold rich riverbank, and the law only allowed 100 per person. Thus Davis went to the comissoner and staked the 12 foot right in between the stakes.
    From this he mined close to half a million in today's money, thus earning his nickname.
    He used the money to build a trade empire.
