Left this morning (only just 🤣) to head to Mundi Mundi. Can't believe how many sections of roadworks so far. Had lunch at Heffrons Lookout, interesting stuff poking out if the bin. Didn't really have a plan on where we were stopping. Grabbed dinner at the Mullalley Pub, and stayed for the night at a rest stop out side of Coona.Read more

Made it to Coonabarabran for breakfast, caught up with Jo, Dan, Fiona, Steve & Jaz. Had a lovely morning. Headed to Nyngan to meet up with mum and dad for lunch. Bit weird not heading out to the farm! On to Cobar for the night. Camping in class, on the street, next to the old mine, all the free camps full and parks booked out!Read more

Walked around Cobar this morning, then headed towards White Cliffs. Beautiful and green. Stopped at Meadow Glen Rest Area for morning tea, heaps of the trees had clocks attached to them! Some were even working. Lots of fat goats around. Had lunch at Wilcannia, walked around the block, gorgeous sanstone buildings, lots abandoned and boarded up. Loved the tree growing out of one. Arrived at White Cliffs and set up for a few days. Hopefully the rain holds off 🤞Read more

Out to the Camel Cup for the day, also running a Bikekhana. Lots of little dudes (& bigger dudes later) on motor bikes doing Gymkhana events, flags, bending, barrel races etc. Absolutely freezing wind 🥶 4 Camel races later and we're so covered in red dust, it's everywhere, my beanie will never be the same again!Read more

Went on a tour of White Cliffs this morning, found out all about the area, the Opal fields and the people. Was shown through the dugout house known as The White House, pretty sure I wouldn't want bus loads of people through my house everyday, but pretty spectacular what they have done with the place. Not sure what the other 100 or so are like inside, but they all look pretty wild outside. Went for a drive through the Opal Fields, amazed that's its only about 1 square mile. Also saw Australia's/ world's first solar farm, the pioneer cemetery and had a peak at the Red Earth Opal Shop.Read more

So, we're heading to Broken Hill today, to meet up with Jay, Sarah and the kids. Daz and Kim, are meeting us on Wednesday. Arrived around lunch time, Jay and Sarah arrived a few cars behind us! Settled in, actually booked in to the Racecourse camping area, as opposed to the Mundi Mundi overflow, where there are over 300 booked in for the night. They're expecting over 500 tomorrow night. Went to town for a bit of shopping, and went to the Miners Memorial lookout before heading back to the vans for dinner.Read more

This morning we went to the Royal Flying Doctors Service in Broken Hill. Had a tour around the planes and saw where they're shooting the new RFDS series. Then went down the street for lunch, followed by checking out The Big Picture at the The Silver City Mint and Art Gallery. Spent the rest of the afternoon wandering around all the jewellery, art, sculptures and chocolate!Read more

Off to the bash this morning, Aunty Kim isn't well, so they're not going to make it. Very sad to not to catch up with them. Didn't take as long to get in as we thought. We're about half way back in the camping area, and straightish to the stage area, so not to bad a walk in, about a 1km round trip. Gary cooked dinner tonight, most excellent lamb camp oven. Then some of us went for a walk to see Bjorn Again. They were excellent, having ABBA do Bon Jovi's Living On A Prayer was a bit different, but good, and they also threw in a bit of ACDC.Read more

Bit overcast today, even a few spits of rain early on. Music doesn't start till lunch time, so had breaky and coffee before taking our chairs, coats, beanies and drinks and setting up for the concerts. Nice distance from the stage, today Ash Grunwald, The Wolfe Brothers, Busby Marou, Richard Clapton, Missy Higgins and Midnight Oil. Could have done without the political crap that always comes with them. Back to camp for dinner.Read more

Had a windy night and then some rain, chairs and tables all wet, but woke up to a beautiful clear day. That soon turned cloudy and windy again! Jay not feeling too crash hot, so got a pass to go to town and get checked out. All is good and they got back in time for Jon Stevens, who was excellent! Saw the Mundi Undi Run this morning, some sights you can never unsee, OMG there are some brave people out there.Read more

Off this morning to the Nut Bush World Record attempt, Kaitlyn, Sandy, Adam, Aiden, Rach, Kayla, Gary and I participated. There was also the Mad Max Character dress up for another World Record attempt (none of us did that one). People have been lining up to get into the concert arena from 9 each morning, couldn't believe the stampede to make it to the front when they opened the gates at 12. Home for lunch and then we took our chairs down and set up for this afternoons concerts, Russell Morris, Daryl Braithwaite, Kasey Chambers and Jimmy Barnes. Apparently we didn't get the world record for Nut Bush, sold enough tickets, but they didn't all show up to participate!Read more

Packed up this morning, we were going to wait around till lunch time to leave, but didn't, so, took about 45 minutes in line to get out, then back to Broken Hill. Re-setup on the sites we had before, and then into the washing. Went out to the Living Desert to see the Sculptures again, this time no rain or wind and got to see the gorgeous sunset before heading back for dinner and a fire.Read more

Jay and Sarah headed off this morning, then we went into town for a look around. Did a bit of shopping, morning tea and lunch. Went to Tourist Info to check on the roads north, not much help, so we'll check it out ourselves. Came back to town for dinner for Adams birthday. Tried a few places, very busy, tried the Demo Club again (they wouldn't let us in last year because we'd come in thru SA) and they wouldn't let mum in without ID. Never again! Ended up at the Palace Hotel, which was featured in Priscilla Queen of the Desert, had a great night. Spectacular building!Read more

Lots of rain last night and strong winds, puddles everywhere this morning and very cold! So, heading north today, think to Tibooburra, should be all sealed road. Sheep on the way, and starting to get hilly. Stopped at Packsaddle Road house for lunch. Nice little place, especially out of the wind. On to Milparinka, Historic gold mining town with a pub still operating and restored colonial buildings and ruins. Staying at Tibooburra for the night.Read more

Up this morning, and having stayed off road last night, booked into the caravan park for tonight. Unhooked and headed out to Cameron Corner for a drive and lunch at the pub. Stopped at the Big Bandicoot, amazing sculpture made from wire mesh, further along, found the Big Bilby. Glimpses of the dog fence along the way, 5514km long, then actually have to open the gate to get through to SA and then turn a couple of meters later into QLD. Went back through the National park, bit slower, but a nice drive. Past some old Homesteads, a couple of nice lookouts, emu's, horses, alpacas, sheep, goats and some cattle.Read more

Fuelled up this morning and checked out the last few touristy things, another wire a sculpture and a replica of the whale boat Sturt carried on his trek, thinking there was an inland sea. Headed north again, NSW had a sealed road to the border (apart from roadworks) then lots of dirt and dust. Came across B.O.B. dude who was riding from Adelaide to Cook Town, then down the coast, across to Bourke and back to Adelaide. Lost his first aid kit as Adam was going past, we stopped and picked it up and passed it out the window to him, he then stopped to talk while we had lunch. Fair bit of red dust in the cupboards around the wheel arches, will definitely need to sort that, and the screws all worked their way out where they held the microwave in, so it's now velcroed in.Read more

Beautiful morning, breaky by the river and off to Quilpie. Passed through some oil fields, bit of a surprise. Stopped at Cave Hill Quarry for morning tea, and then onto Eromanga to see the Dinosaurs. Lilly was a great tour guide, learnt all about the digs and got to see where they work on the bones, had lunch before continuing on. Passed 3 vans yesterday going the other direction and 3 vans, 1 road train and 5 4wd's today, not many people out here! Staying out of town at a goat farm caravan park on a lake.Read more

Walked around Quilpie this morning, saw the Opal Altar and Font in the church, went to the museum at tourist information centre and then to Cafe for late coffee. Cute metal Sculptures made from corrugated iron. Set up camp and very late lunch at Charleville.Read more

Markets this morning, then off to the WWII Secret Base, whre the Americans had a secret air base. Saw the Bomb Sight Vault that the Americans listed as a Dental Facility, where they stored the actually Bomb Sighter, no one knew what it was used for until 2012. The locals are still not talking about what went on out here. Onto the park for the Big Red Chair, cool Sculptures and the amazing Rainmaking Guns. This dude had a great idea back in 1902 that to break the drought, he'd fire 6 of these guns, over a kilometre apart, at 2 minute intervals which should discharge gas and set up vibrations in the clouds and make rain. Got a few drops and then a sprinkle but that was it. Blew a couple of them up when they tried again. So, that was the end of that.Read more

Left this morning hoping to go on a Bilby tour, but, alas, everyone is heading to Birdsville races, so no spots available. Save that for next time. Went shopping instead, and managed coffee too. Heading south, stopped at Angellala Bridge where Australia's most powerful explosion in transport history happened. 2014 Truck carrying 53t of Ammonium Nitrate caught fire, crashed and exploded, with a blast radius of 1km. Completely demolished the road bridge and railway bridge that had stood since 1897. Not sure how no one died, but fire trucks and police cars weren't so lucky. Then onto Cunnamulla, great museum, so much to see, got kicked out when they closed. Also found the Robber Tree, bit sad looking, was where a guy shot someone after robbing a bank, ran off, climbed the tree and hid until a sheepdog found him. They hung him 10 weeks later.Read more

So, got up this morning ready to head to Nyngan, but the shearers at Daz n Kims that went home on Sunday, all have Covid, so decided to head east again and go see them a bit later. Checked out the silo (water tank) art, and went for a walk around town before heading off, managed coffee too. Stopped at Bollon for lunch and a quick look around the Heritage centre, only outside stuff as it was closed. Had to measure the vans to settle an argument with the man at St George Caravan Park, cause he said Grandad would have to unhook cause he was so long, and Grandy and I said that our van was longer hooked up. We won by 450mm.Read more

Walked around town this morning, did some shopping and had a coffee before continuing our trip east. Started seeing cropping again, been a bit light on for a while. Lots of wattle trees. Stopped at Moonie for lunch, missed the Yabbie Races (March), but learnt about the area. Still producing oil, heaps of cactuses, lots of crops and cattle. Saw an echidna today on the side of the road, not living, and 1 yesterday, running onto the road. Got to Dalby about 30 minutes ahead of Dean, Erin and Clancie, set up camp for a few days and are ready for tomorrow.Read more

Up early to watch Erin ride, new experience for Grandy and Grandad, being a Challenge & Campdraft rather than just a Campdraft that they usually see. After morning tea, checked out the local museum. Pretty amazing displays, so much stuff that they actually let you come back any time over the next week to get around the whole thing. We left at about 2.30 so we could have lunch, think we'd only done a bit over half of it. Bad idea, everything shuts around 2 o'clock here. They mustn't believe in afternoon coffee. Did find a bakery, so we didn't starve. Back to the showgrounds for drinks, nibbles, Clancie cuddles and dinner.Read more

Up early to watch Erin ride this morning, had coffee and then off to look at antiques. Had gorgeous lunch at a lovely Cafe, just a bit slow, then back to finish looking at the museum. Tried finding Swap n Go for gas bottles, but apparently haven't had any anywhere up here for 3 weeks. Back for an early night in, it's cold, raining and a bit windy.Read more

Well, woke up to a very wet showground this morning, and water views that we didn't pay for! 37mm overnight. Erin made the finals tomorrow in the Open, but Dean didn't have much luck. Everything is so wet! Sitting around for the afternoon watching the water. Did go and check out the Challenge Final, and they also had a team drafting event which was good, 3 on horses, chasing 3 cattle around the course.Read more
