  • Dancing at the O2

    January 28, 2012 in England ⋅ ☀️ 4 °C

We had crumpets for breakfast and then got the bus to the station in Oxford.
Train to Paddington and tube to Tottenham Court Road. We were staying at the St Giles, room 383 was ready for us. Deirdre C had recommended this hotel and it is in a good location.
We took the tube to Covent Garden, there was a huge Q for the lifts so we climbed 193 steps on the spiral staircase....puffed.
We had lunch in Henry's and then wandered around the stalls and Neale Street and Long Acre. It was very good. We met a Radley guy doing a survey, we won £1 on a scratch card !!!
Nice dress in Banana Rep and we got an owl cushion in Sass Belle.
We bought cup cakes for dessert and then strolled back to the hotel.
Got our sparkles on and took the tube to Greenwich an the O2
Brilliant seats. The professional dancers were brilliant. It was amazing to see them live.
We got a programme and score cards. The outfits were fabulous and the atmosphere was amazing.
So we saw Nancy De L, Robbie Savage, Mark Foster, Anita, Jason Donovan, Harry, Chelsea as well as Robin ( brilliant ) Aliona.
Harry and Aliona won and Jason was second. Robbie Savage was very poor.
It was one of the best shows ever. We took loads of photos but everyone was moving so quickly it was difficult to get a good shot.
There was a mega Q for the tube but excellent crows control so everyone got away quickly enough.

    Tired but very happy teddies.
    It was a brilliant evening.

  • London Day 3

    January 29, 2012 in England ⋅ ☁️ 1 °C

We went to Starbucks for breakfast and then headed to the National Gallery. We wanted to see the Da Vinci exhibition but it was sold out.
Seemingly people had camped out overnight in the cold to be at the top of the queue.
We walked down the Mall to Buckingham Palace. The horse guards were having a bit of a practice so it was very cool to see them.
It was Chinese New Year, the year of the Dragon. There were Chinese lanterns everywhere. We passed back by the National Gallery and went in to visit Van Gogh and Monet. We went to the shop and bought cards too.
Then back to Covent Garden and Banana Rep shop. Orlaith got 2 dresses. Then we headed to Gerrard St in Chinatown. It was jammers. We bought a little dragon, (Giles) and a new year token for peace and harmony.
Went to Jamie Oliver's for lunch. It was very good and then we headed back to collect the bags.
Off to Paddington Station and on to Oxford. One of Orlaith's students was sitting just in front of us so we had to have some of our conversation as gailge.
M got the Birmingham train for the airport.
There was a long delay at security because there was a flight to Islamabad and they were doing mega checks. Smooth flight home and M executive chauffeur service was waiting.
It was a great weekend. I still can't believe I saw Strictly live. It was fantastic.
