  • Day 1 Journey to Northern Ireland

    May 11 in Northern Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

We left home at 3am ,taxi took us to a coach at Wheatley nr Oxford .Then we had another coach at Lymme Services off M6. Coach number 084 with Mike the driver. Mike had been asked to replace a driver yesterday. He is a young man, totally unflappable, he had to drive, served drinks, carry cases, remind us of itinerary and a general good egg.
Some coach users don't do what he asks...eg back at certain times and make his job more stressful.
We had lots of loo stops, final stop was a man being sick,he had to change his clothes beside the roadside, poor guy.
A very long trip,so will see how the rest of the trip goes

    Day 2 Mountains of Morne

    May 12 in Northern Ireland ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

I made use of the hotel pool early this morning,as well as jaccussi and steam room.
We had a great breakfast too,Jon enjoyed the cooked option!
Set off to Newcastle County Down, nestled by the mountains of Morne as they sweep into the sea. It was raining as we left the hotel but as we arrived at the sea the mist had lifted and rain stopped.
Unfortunately the coach broke the back window reversing into carpark, a bit of drama!
We enjoyed the seaside I had ice cream and a paddle ...had to air dry feet. The mountains didn't disappoint, highest in Ireland. I didn't have time to climb.
After a few hours boarded the cardboarded backwindow coach ,went to Downpatrick. Place where Saint Patrick was supposedly buried. He brought Christianity to Ireland in Roman times ,quite interesting. The coach travels quite a lot of miles every day but it's interesting places and we enjoy them .

  • Day 3 Belfast and Titanic Experience

    May 13 in Northern Ireland ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

We had a different coach and driver .We had to navigate in Belfast route to Titanic Experience using a Glider Bus after being dropped out side Belfast County Hall .The bus is in two halves joined with a corrugated rubber connection, it was driven at breakneck speed, swinging us from side to side, crazy.
The Titanic Experience is a strange angular metallic building. It was an emotional journey understanding what had happened to so many people, how the boat was built and what lessons were learned, then how it was found in 1985.
We both enjoyed the freedom to escape the coach party and do our own thing. The technology in this exhibition was amazing....
We are enjoying chatting to another couple at dinner in the evenings.
I explored the area before dinner and found a big park and Friars ruin very close by. Will take Jon to see it.

  • Day 4 Giants Causeway and Derry.

    May 14–16 in Northern Ireland ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

Today we travelled a few hours but Giants Causeway was certainly worth it .A national trust site. An employee sad the weather today was unprecedented, it's usually very windy and wet. We had sunshine and a breeze. Such a beautiful place and great information centre and audio. I got a walk and a climb!!
Afternoon we avoided a Derry tour, and using Google found our own tour. Walked the Bridge of Peace ,shaped like a huge handshake between catholics and protestants, went to a museum ,as Jon wisely said ...it presented one narrative.
    But we enjoyed that too.
One coach member returned to coach drunk 🥴.
All in all we have had a good few days and Jon has done really well.

  • Day 5 Dublin (last day )

    May 15 in Ireland ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Drove several hours to Dublin, picked up a guide for a drive around the city. He was very humorous and added lots of anecdotes. We had a break halfway, which had a wonderful walled garden, very few gardens in Ireland everyone has a good lawn and plenty of trees and shrubs ,but not many flower gardens. But all very tidy and cared for.
In Dublin we had a few free hours and went to see The book of Kells experience at Trinity College. It was a great end to our week, a fully immersive experience, we have not experienced anything like it before..brilliant.
A different hotel tonight and HOME tomorrow 😊🥰
