    OVER AND OUT

    1 марта, Новая Зеландия ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

In Richmond relaxing in the sun. Shortly we'll wander up the road for our last little bit of supermarket shopping. Tomorrow, we'll make our way to Picton (Koromiko) and hopefully find a space for the night as we are due to sail 7.45am Monday morning. Home Tuesday or Wednesday. It's been a blast. I love that by being self contained we can stay at a variety of places, some very unusual and interesting and if you are willing to engage you meet some lovely people lots with fascinating tales to share. We love the South Island. So much quieter than the Nth. The roads are in better condition and there is less traffic meaning driving is more enjoyable. We've enjoyed many of the cycle trails the communities have created but still more to complete so we'll be back. Thanks for following and for your interest. That's me signing off for now. DUBAI day 2

    30 августа, Объединенные Арабские Эмираты ⋅ ☀️ 40 °C

The first 2 pics are taken from our room balcony. 10am start this morning for another coach excursion. Picture frame first stop. It was the winner in a completion. It's gold on the out side. Had a short boat ride across the creek to a new market (Souk). It was quite cool as architecture is old style. This market sold mostly spices fabric clothing and lovely colourful dishes. Don't know how they make any money cause all the little shops were the same. We also went to an original Souk where the main focus is Gold jewellery and spices. Didn't buy anything but did have an icecream made with Camel milk very nice. Last stop was a Mosque just for photos. It's the largest in Dubai. Back at hotel about 1.45 for showers and an afternoon of rest. Dinner at an Italian restaurant a leisurely 3 minute walk away. The sign on the peddle bin will give you a laugh. It was in the toilet at the Market. Sorry couldn't get the photos on order today for some reason.Читать далее

    San Sebastien

    5 сентября, Испания ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

O my, I've fallen in love with San Sébastien. 🥰 It's surely my kinda place. Beautiful beaches, a nice mix of historic and modern and nice wide tree lined avenues due to a Parisian influence. And our Hotel was something else thank you Leah. Zinema 7 has a movie theme. All the rooms feature a different movie star or producer. It's fabulous. I wonder if you recognize who I'm cozying up to? 2 photos from dinner Thursday night. I said I'd tell you about the food 😋 + ☹️. Well the fruit is delicious. Huge big juicy well ripened nectarines peaches mellons bananas pineapple tomatoes etc. Really enjoying a mixture for breakfast. But then we have the dinner food. Not so much to our taste. Very salty lots of meat and so far haven't seen vegetables. On Thursday night we all went to a local restaurant for a set menue. That was very interesting. Started with a couple of seafood entrees which were quite nice but then they brought out the main which consisted of a bowl of shredded lettuce with a really salty vinaigrette on it and big platters of very 'blue' boney fatty beef. Just in a big chunk not nicely sliced at all. We sent some of the meat back to have a bit more time on the bbq which helped a bit but yukkk not what we're used to and you can imagine the comments about it still mooing. But the breakfasts are consistent and great so we're not starving. The restaurants don't open at night till 8 or so and dinner is eaten 8.30 to 9pm. More about beautiful San Seb to come.Читать далее

    San Seb, Bilbao, Satanda

    7 сентября, Испания ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Big drive today and a huge exhausting walk through the streets of Bilboa in 37-38 degree heat. First stop though was to see this fantastic vehicle and foot traffic cable car. It is a world heritage listed site. After a walk though the old Town and some lunch we visited the Guggenheim Museum, which is more an art gallery than a museum.Читать далее

    Thursday Porto and Lamego

    12 сентября, Португалия ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

The highlight of the day was the trip to Lamego to the church dedicated to Mary mother of Jesus. There was beautiful music being played through outdoor speakers. The church was gorgeous. It's the one with the blue colors. After visiting the church Roger walked down the 687 steps into the town This is called the stairway to heaven if you go from the bottom upwards. These beautiful blue tiles are at intervals on the stairway. There is another small cathedral in the town which Roger also went into with our guide. (I was resting in the shade again) That's the church with the gold ceiling . We got back about 5.30 and I skipped the night out with dinner and went to bed. Slept about 13hrs. ☹️ poor Rog. Another lonley evening.Читать далее

Pleased you've been able to enjoy the daytime activities on your trip despite being unwell, even if it means missing the groups dinners. Also pelased to hear you are finally on the mend and hopefully back to your usual fitness in a couple of days.

    Castelo de Rodrigo

    14 сентября, Португалия ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

This morning Roger did the excursion to the above very historic wee village up high in the hills. It was a Portugese border fort town and had a very clear view of any invading Spanish forces. Rog loves history so it was right up his Alley. He was interested to see the Knights Templar Cross on the wall cause he knows all about them. I stayed in the boat and had a lovely morning with my nose in a book. Moving on again at 6.30am.Читать далее

    Guimaraes

    17 сентября, Португалия ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

This afternoon we did an excursion to the the above with 2 others from our group. About 45mins in the bus. It's the town that had the first Portugese rulers so there's a 12th century castle several cathedrals and
monestries. Just another historic town really but quite pretty with lovley colourful gardens and fountains. There is a university so lots of young people around. Unfortunately after waiting about 15mins we discovered our bus had broken down and we had another hour to wait for a replacement. We were ushered into a small cafe where our tour guides bought us all a cold drink which was nice. Didn't get back till 7.20 and our tour friends were sitting at dinner wondering where we were. Now sitting in the lounge all packed up waiting for our bus to carry on our tour of Spain. Where heading to the Mediterranean coast so looking forward to that. 5 more overnight stops. Photos. The last 2 are night lights of Porto (where we're are docked) The gorgeous round building is a monestry. Note the Sox with a picture of the pope who just died.

    Seville

    20–26 сент., Испания ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Back in Spain where the people are emotional expressive and noisy. Also not so many English speakers. Preferred Portugal where there lots of English spoken and the people have a calmer, milder manner. Though I must admit both here and Portugal I've noticed a lot of the big advertising boards are in English. Possibly because of so many English speaking tourists here. So today we explored Seville mainly focusing on the castle, cathedral and the big central palazzo where families gather and there is entertainment and little candles boats to hire. I'll have to do this in two parts cause I've so many cool photos to share and I don't know what to leave out. We were told the city's coulour of choice is Ocre and rust and it is certainly obvious. To start the day we visited the Moorish castle which became a palace when the Christians kicked the Muslims out. The Roman build aquaduct is used for some walls. We've seen lots of castles but for me this is favourite. I just love the intricate lace like patterns. .Even though it doesn't have the colourful tiles of other castles each room we went into just took my breath away. Really it's hard to capture the wow in photos hense some close up shots and video. Also I have a thing about decorative doors you might have noticed. Another highlight of the Palace was the garden and pools.Читать далее
