It is fun to see the blue 'Way of the Abbey' markers scattered along the road. It helps us to know we are on track. Today we walked within 3 KM of the Canada/US border crossing. We also discovered a little resting place for pilgrims, and as we took a break, the person who provided the area came out to chat with us. The day ended at a very beautiful old covered bridge that is no longer in useRead more

Diane surprised us all by arriving just before 8:30 am.m To do this, she had to leave her place at 5:30 a.m.!
With Diane's arrival, the primary focus of the morning was to find a proper resting spot for Irene's ashes. After much consultation and driving a number of kms, we arrived at... actually... nothing. Thank you Google Maps.
However, upon returning to our starting point for the day, we discovered the right spot. It was as if Irene directed us there. We found an area where there was a little river; mountains were visible in the distance; bushes with delicate flowers were plentiful; and among the many trees, a small, perfect clearing for gathering. It was decided that the siblings would scatter their mom's ashes in this place the next day.
Walking again was rather cool, but the views were spectacular. Of course the consolation of being together was comforting and the sharing of stories and laughter was invaluable.

The sun continued to shine on us as we walked along quiet roads, around small lakes and through chalet country.
Our day ended with a great celebration of Diane's 69th (!!) Birthday. At her request, we had a 'surf and turf' dinner, with a homemade birthday cake.Read more

    Happy Birthday Diane!
Sunshine greeted us as we left the chalet with Irene's ashes, and sunshine followed us to the spot chosen the previous day. Each of Irene's children paid tribute to their mom and each in turn scattered her ashes. Throughout the ceremony, the sun shone, and birds sang. It was indeed a proper resting place for Irene.Read more

We bid adieu to Bruno and set out to complete the circuit. It was a warm, sunny day, and we began with a meditation time near a small river. Because we all wanted to arrive at the Abbey together, we started at the halfway mark. We arrived in time to have our lunch on the monastery's beautiful grounds.
It was a fitting way to complete our little pilgrimage with thanksgiving in our hearts for the time shared together, walking, reminiscing, and eating great meals.
