From Porto we spent some time at Fatima. Beautiful church, Our Lady of the Rosary, dedicated to the Visitation of Mary to 3 young children.
On to Lisbon; checked in for our 3 nights at the Intercontinental hotel, Quick shower and changed to meet our fellow travelers and Cruise manager for wine and orientation.
Peggy and I headed to San Sebastián Catholic Church for Saturday evening Mass. Back to hotel for dinner and bed.

  • City of 7 Hills

    March 23, 2025 in Portugal ⋅ 🌙 11 °C

Yes, Lisbon is know as the city of 7 hills, I think we hit all of them and more. After Saturday's rain, I opened the curtains to see a double rainbow. Morning excursion took us to Monastery St. Jerome, Torre de Belem, and Padroa dos Descobrimentos; for all those who went on to discover other parts of the world.
Back to the hotel for a lunch of goodies from the local Aldi: bread, cheeses, salami, crackers and couple bottles of Portuguese wine. Relaxed, played cards then headed out for dinner. Great recommendation from our tour guide, Valentinas- best grilled chicken we have had in a long time. Hotel for a night time drink and off to bed. Tomorrow will have plenty of adventures.

  • Cascais & Sintra on the Atlantic.

    March 24, 2025 in Portugal ⋅ 🌙 12 °C

After a great breakfast, we went west to the coast. Beautiful weather, bit windy but nice sunshine. Toured around the seaside village of Cascais then on to Sintra. Scheduled to visit the Pena Palace but they had too much damage from the heavy rains and winds they had this past weekend. Some went to tour another palace, but we took a Tak Tak ride to see the town from different views. Enjoyed an outside lunch and time to walk and taste some Ginja (sour cherry liqueur) served in chocolate cups. Cheers! After back at hotel, we returned the car rental then enjoyed some tasty beverages, cheese and crackers.
Tuesday morning we head north to the Douro River with a stop in Tomar.

  • Full day in Porto

    March 26, 2025 in Portugal ⋅ 🌙 11 °C

Slight change in itinerary due to high water between the locks. Switched full day in Porto to today instead of our last day. We did a bus trip around the city then headed off on foot. Walking through the train station to see all the beautiful tile work, kept on going through the city, crossing the Douro on an iron bridge, down the tram and into Camal Port Winery for their history and tasting. Amazing!
Back on board for a wonderful lunch and then off to Nespereria for a family Winery and Vino Verde tasting.
Back in time for sip and sail cocktail hour. Dinner was great, wines were perfect with each course.

  • Porto to Vila Real

    March 27, 2025 in Portugal ⋅ 🌙 12 °C

Cruised up the Douro to our next port. Motorcoach took us to Casa da Quinta for a tour of their garden and an amazing lunch. Next stop was the Mateas Palace and gardens. Back onboard for dinner, drinks and dancing. Fingers crossed we will be able to move through the locks so our excursion to Salamanca Spain isn't canceled.Read more

  • Change is not always bad...

    March 28, 2025 in Portugal ⋅ 🌙 12 °C

We were supposed to cruise all day to get to the closest port for Salamanca Spain. Again, due to the storms Spain and Portugal had last week, the water levels are unsafe for the ship to pass through the locks. We started at 630a and thought we could but unfortunately not in the morning. Our cruise manager Cesario made arrangements for us to go to a beautiful winery and gardens. Once back onboard we set sail again during lunch and made it through 2 of the 3 locks we needed. Going against the current was tough and we only made it so far. 2 plans for tomorrow, Spain is not going to work into those plans. Another partial day of sailing and another couple of wineries. We had some amazing wines, ports and brandy. Weather has been sunny, Carolina blue skies and perfect temperatures.
    And meals have been outstanding!

  • Cruising right along.

    March 29, 2025 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Morning sunshining bright, going to be a beautiful day and it was. Can't make it to Spain but Cesario, our cruise manager, did an amazing job on plan C... we strolled through a quaint village, toured a bakery, wine and bread museum then to a port wine tasting. Next stop was a special winery for wine and 'a farmer's lunch' cod fish fritters, sausage and beautiful pork with potatoes and cabbage. Desserts were awesome array of great things that went perfect with their wines. As we were coaching around the river front, the ship moved to the next port. We went to a port winery, which had a beautiful view, but some of us are already 'ported out'. Ready for some wine! After our Ama family gathering, we went to sip and sail cocktail hour, then on to dinner. Early to bed because 1-we are tired and 2- Portugal 'springs ahead' tonight. See ya tomorrow.Read more

  • It has been 2 fabulous days!

    March 31, 2025 in Portugal ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

We've done a lot in the past 2 days. Wines, ports, food, travel all shared with amazing friends. Back in Porto for a free day to tour the city, shop or just relax and pack because we leave early tomorrow. It has been a wonderful trip. Peggy was able to walk from the ship to the Atlantic Ocean and hiked it back to the new location the boat is docked. Exploring Porto and doing last minute shopping. Final dinner with the whole group.Read more
