  • Hong Kong

    May 28, 2016 in France ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

The wind was so bad in Sydney that only one runway was in operation so we had an hour delay. The wind was also bad in Hong Kong so we went into a holding pattern for another 45 minster. This made the changeover tight. The wind was very bad on our landing but thanks to Captain Kangaroo we bounced into Hong Kong. Didn't have time for a drink or anything to eat before changing flights. Took 3 Phernergan to help me sleep when we got on board. Slept about 6 hours and I feel OK at the moment. It's about 3. 40am London don't time and we are about 2 and a half hours out.Read more

Did a fair bit of walking around Notting Hill. Then we had a taste of London tour which included a meal at a pub of beef and ale pie. Very nice then onto a river cruise up and down the Thames. It was a wonderful view of London at night.Read more

  • Paris day 1

Well we are in Paris and its raining. Oh well at least it's not minus 7.7 like in Lithgow. A bit weary so not going to the cabaret tonight. Going to try a couple of different beers tonight I bought from a supermarket. Just waiting for them to cool. Too wet to go out anywhere. The beer was very nice only managed 2.Read more

  • Paris day 2

    May 31, 2016 in France ⋅ 🌧 12 °C

Sitting in the hotel waiting to go on the excursion for today which includes tour around Paris in the morning then the palace of Versaille this afternoon. Then we have a welcome dinner this evening. The room was bigger than London but it was grotty, not what you would expect from a Novatel. We both slept well. I hit the wall at 8.30 and I think I was asleep by 8.35. Ended up skipping the Versatile excursion and walked around Paris for 3 hours. Went for dinner at a restaurant the dinner was amazing and the atmosphere and entertainment was terrific. The old buildings in Paris are unbelievably beautiful and so many of them everywhere.Read more

  • Carcasson

    June 2, 2016 in France ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

This would have to be the most amazing place I have seen in my life to date. The building of this city has astounded me. I just can't get my mind around how people put the massive stone blocks into such high structures. Will never forget this place.Read more

Big day today a lot of traffic. Went from Nice to Pisa then to Florence. Saw the Leaning Tower amazing. Lots of Africans trying to sell counterfeit goods and if you buy them you can be fined. The police don't fine them as they have no money.....pretty sad really. Then back to Florence and a lovely dinner. Big day again tomorrow off to Sorrento.Read more

  • Pompei

    June 8, 2016 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Went to the ancient ruins of Pompei. Another great experience a lot of the buildings are still standing except for the timber which had been replaced because the heat had carbonised it. Looking forward to seeing a documentary on the destruction of Pompei again having been there.Read more

  • Rome

    June 8, 2016 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

We have arrived in Rome and are about to go for a walking tour around the city then dinner. The artwork in and around Rome leaves me speachless. The meal was really nice and it was another wonderful day. Day 2 Went to the Vatican City. ..and again it's so hard to describe what it is like. The words escape me. You read about these places and see photos but nothing prepares you for the beauty and feeling of awe when you are looking at the real thing. Then onto the Coleseum and it amazed me at the shear size and the feeling you get when you enter a place as old as this and to see where the emporer sat and where the gladiators and animals were housed. You could visualise the crowds sitting around it watching the battles taking place. Had a trip to a country town in the evening for dinner another nice evening. Just getting ready for the bus trip to meet the ferry then off to Greece. We have arrived at the port to get the ferry to Greece.Read more

  • Greece

    June 11, 2016 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

We have been on the ship since 3pm yesterday and have stopped at a port somewhere in Greece. It's 8.30am and we will arrive at our destination at around 3pm this afternoon. Olympic is small and the main street is about all there is. It is a lovely street with lots of shade. Greece is very poor and lots of rubbish laying around in some areas due to a strike by three rubbish collected. We are off Athens this morning. It is a beautiful day.
Well we have arrived in Athens and I am shocked to find it in a really poor state with buildings in shabby conditions dirty streets. Shops in vast numbers appear to have been closed for some time. It has some similarities to Bangkok. We have a city tour tomorrow so we will see what that brings.
    Sounds good...keeping you busy then.
We went out for dinner last night at this restaurant which is on top of a hill overlooking Athens the view was spectacular it is a big city. The food was beautiful and we had Greek dancers entertaining us as well as a 3 piece band. We all ended up on the dance floor doing the dances. They took about 8 people out of our group out and dressed them up in traditional costumes then brought them back in to dance it was a blast. Gail was one of them she looked great. It was probably one of the best nights we have had. Got some videos of it. Saw some of the cleaner areas of Athens and maybe I may have judged Athens too quickly.
Went on the Greek island cruise today. The weather was cloudy so we were robbed the beauty of the water colours that the area is renowned for. However it was still impressive. The trip back to Athens on the ferry was a bit rough with a rather large swell coming in.
Back in Patros ready to catch the overnight ferry to San Marino.

  • San Marino

    June 15, 2016 in San Marino ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Back in Italy arrived at 5.30pm. Have both slept on and off for a day and a night. Had an early night on the ferry and slept all night and on and off through the day. Arrived at San Marino at 8pm. What an absolutely amazing little country. The hotel was in a medieval town /castle perched on a clifftop with views you dream about. Would be one of my favourites of the tour so far. This seems to happen every second day.Read more

  • Venice

    June 17, 2016 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

We went to Venice last night for dinner and it was flooded the water was mid calf height in some places. But we soldiered on taking our shoes and socks off and wading through to the restaurant. Some restaurants were flooded with people sitting with their feet in the water eating as if nothing was wrong. Our restaurant wasn't flooded but when we finished dinner we had to make our way back it was worse. The whole of St Marks square was under water with people everywhere laughing and taking photos. What an experience that was the highest the water has been for yonks according to our guide. Had a great day there today. Went for a gondola ride through the canals really enjoyed it. Then strolled around the shops so busy people everywhere. Then this afternoon we went on a cruise around the islands and stopped at Murano. Beautiful little place. No cars and shops everywhere that depend on the tourist trade. The houses are semi detached and are painted all different colours. Really different.Read more

  • Austria

    June 18, 2016 in Austria ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

Making our way through the beautiful countryside of Austria. Again unable to adequately describe how amazing this country is. Stopped at Felden and got a bonus there was a car show on and the town was full of Lamborghinis Ferrari and other fantastic cars. A long day in the bus but made worth it by all the wonderful scenery. Arrived in Vienna at 7.30pm and had a really nice dinner. Pretty tired. The hotel is really nice. Went on a walking tour this morning. Lovely city....very quiet not a lot of shops open on Sundays apparently. Went to Shonbrunn Palace this afternoon. Love the history of the place. Having a quiet one tonight on the road again tomorrow. Had dinner with the girls from Melbourne... great time then back to the room. Travelled to Solzburg today and had a walking tour. The birthplace of Mozart. Unbelievable history and scenery. We then moved on to Innsbruck where we are staying out of the city and up in the mountains in a beautiful little village of about 2000 population.Read more

Then Went on a trip to the top of Mount Titlis 10000 ft high snow capped and incredible views in every direction. Beautiful clear day sunny skies and blue sky.
