    • USA Tour - Atlantic City

      November 30, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

First full day in Atlantic City today and all I can say is

‘It would be better in high season’

There’s literally no one about it’s so strange.

I took a walk down to the lighthouse today which is supposed to be famous somehow, not sure why. It was also in a pretty run down part of town but it didn’t give me a chance to walk the entire length of the broadwalk... which again would be better in high season as everything was closed and there was no one about. I managed to take a few pictures down at the beach which was quite nice. Also did a tour today of the hard rock casino and Tropicana casino - came out even overall so that was cool after a few hours gambling. I also went to a place called White House Subs - which is famous for their submarine sandwiches. I didn’t ask how big they where but I would say close to 20 inches, they where definitely much bigger than the 16inch sandwich in Boston!! It was awesome, only managed to eat half of it but they wrapped the rest up for me to take away and even gave me a small tub of meatballs as they liked my accent and I did quite well for a brit hahahah

Did a little tour of the outlet village they have here too, it’s a joke how cheap some stuff is here - YSL T shirts for $20 - Ralph Lauren t shirts for $15 - crazy!!

    • USA Tour - Atlantic City

      November 29, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 6 °C

Travelled to Atlantic City today from Philadelphia via greyhound. Must of been the worlds oldest coaches as it was a piece of shit. Getting off the coach at Atlantic bus station was also an experience.... not a great one either hahaaha. The hostel I’m staying in is quite cool, more of a house... well technically it is the owner actually lives here. It’s not the most up to date in the world but it’s in a cool location. I managed a quick walk up and down Atlantic Avenue and then at night I went gambling in Bally’s and Caesar’s casino - walked out $20 up so that’s always a bonus. The casinos are huge, even bigger as it’s the end of the season and there’s basically no one around.... it’s genuinely like a ghost town!

Got back to the hostel and ended up chatting to Alex who’s a guy in my room till about 3am - he’s from Philadelphia and just got back from a tour of Peru which sounded quite cool

Still think I’ll go to south east Asia

    • USA Tour - Philadelphia

      November 28, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 3 °C

So today I went on a huge tour of the city. Started out by visiting the first Bank of America, moving onto Benjamin Franklin’s home. I also went to see independence hall, the liberty bell and the constitution museum.

After I did all the history stuff I went to paddy’s bar which if you’ve seen ‘it’s always sunny in Philadelphia’ this is the bar it’s based on. Looks nothing like the programme however. I also got talking to the barmaid who works there who told me to get a Philly taco - which is a cheesesteak hoagie wrapped in a slice of pizza.... sounds awesome however I skipped it as I didn’t want to die of a heart attack.

I also had a venture though Chinatown which was cool, although I would say Boston’s Chinatown was slightly better. But just off Chinatown is a place clued reading food market which takes up like 2 city blocks. All kinds of food you imagine, I went for a jambalaya as I’d never had one before.... unreal.

After stuffing my face I walked to the other side of town to the museum of art - which is where the iconic scene in rocky is filmed where he climbs the steps... rocky climbed those steps so, so did I!! Also FaceTimed my brother from the top as he’s a huge rocky fan!

I managed to find a pub with the Liverpool game on only managed to grab the second half. Poor performance all round really. But a guy came into the pub after the game had finished with a very British accent. We ended up talking and his name was sandy from Paddington in London, he works over here and has done for 15 years! Turns out he’s a spurs fan so he was happy. After about 30 mins or so another guy walks in who sits next to us at the bar, I can’t remember his name but he was a Russian living in Texas in Philadelphia for work. We all spent about 3 hours in the pub drinking before we all had to go our separate ways - it was a brilliant night though!

Bed early tonight as I am up to get to Atlantic City in the morning...

      November 27, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 5 °C

Had a quick trip round the south side of the city today, ended up in this cool little bar which had taco Tuesday on which was immense $1:50 per taco! The south side of Philly was quite cool really, few areas I wouldn’t want to live but every city has that. One thing I have noticed about Philly and Washington is the amount of homelessness, I thought it was pretty bad back home but these 2 cities kind of opened my eyes a little bit.

What trip to Philly is complete without a Philly Cheesesteak. I went to a place called sonny’s which is supposed to be the best place for it... it was fantastic if not messy. Washed it all down with a large root beer. Can’t get anymore local than that!

Got the coach from Washington to Philadelphia today - with the travel times there wasn’t much done today. However the hostel I am staying in is unbelievable, almost certainly up there with the best! Have an entire deluxe 6 room to myself at the moment hahahahaha. It’s called apple hostels on bank street which is near the old town. Down a dodgy alley but location wise it can’t be bettered I don’t think! The hostel floors are also rated on the rocky films - I’m on floor 4 so I have the best rocky film by far (fight me if you disagree)Read more

Woke up today to watch the Formula 1 (Lewis won) after that I did the museums I didn’t have time to do the previous day. I did the air and space museum which was fucking awesome! Would recommend!!! Also did the Native American history museum which was cool, a real eye opener as I didn’t realise how badly they where treated. After that I went to Capitol Hill which is much better than the Whitehouse. Unfortunately with it being a Sunday I couldn’t go in but it looked brilliant at night. Then I was white trailer trash and went to hooters for some food. Don’t care what anyone says if you want a few beers, watch some sports and have good food there isn’t much better places!!!Read more

      November 24, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 4 °C

Much more relaxed day today, woke up at 10am to watch the Liverpool v Watford game (we won 3-0) after that I went to check out some museums - the African American history museum and the American history museum. Both are well worth a visit and they’re both huuuuge! But the time I had done those 2 it was almost 5pm at which time most of the museums close so I decided to go get a drink by the capital one arena as I had NBA tickets for the Washington Wizards later on. Came across an Irish bar by the stadium. It was shit but it was better than nothing and after a 25 minute walk in the pouring rain anything was better than nothing. Had a few beers then went over to the area to watch my first NBA game.

      Verdict; it’s not for me

From being charged almost $15 for a beer to $15 for a hot dog and some fries to watching a game which stopped every few minutes the overall experience just wasn’t for me. The game didn’t get good till the final 2 quarters and even then it was pedestrian at best in terms of pace of the game. However I would recommend it if you’re ever in the states, it’s a different experience from any football or rugby game I’ve ever been to.

    • USA Tour - Washington/Virginia

      November 23, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 0 °C

First full day in Washington today so decided to go out and check the landmarks out. DC is bigger than what I thought... started off at the Whitehouse, completely underwhelming, couldn’t get anywhere near it really and it’s not even That big. Then I moved onto the Washington monument but that was closed for repairs. Ended up by the WW2 memorial which was actually pretty good, then I walked down to the Lincoln memorial which as memorials go is pretty fucking good. A lot bigger than what I expected even though it looked big in planet of the apes and team America. Also managed to see the Vietnam war memorial, the Korean War memorial, Martin Luther King JR memorial, Franklin Roosevelt Memorial, DC War Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, The Pentagon (couldn’t get that close to it though unfortunately - TEAM SNOWDEN) Arlington Cemetery, JF Kennedy gravesite, The Tomb of the forgotten soldier and then my favourite... the US Marine Corps memorial. It was a looooong day and many many miles where walked. But it was a great day that I really enjoyed, I think it helped that it was relatively quiet as people where still celebrating thanksgiving. Picked up a McDonald’s on the way back cause that’s a local thing to do...Read more

    • USA Tour - Washington (Thanksgiving)

      November 22, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 -2 °C

Literally just got set up in my hostel in Washington after an 11 hour coach journey from Boston. My legs are in agony, I’m also pretty certain I have DVT!

Anyway, left Boston this morning at 9:30am and on my walk to the station the entire place was like a ghost town. Didn’t see a single person. I was quick to get away from my room as I met the other person staying in my dorm for the first time and she was an ‘energy healer and cleanser’ she visits sacred locations around the USA and helps brings ‘positive energy’ to those locations.... I couldn’t leave quick enough.

The journey here wasn’t pretty uneventful, I watched a series on Netflix called ‘conspiracy’ which kept me entertained the entire way. Did manage a glimpse of Philadelphia and NYC on my journey though.

Got off at Washington union station and the idea was to walk to the hostel as it was only a 25 minute walk or so but... Jesus some weirdos around there. From the time leaving the coach to getting outside I was approached by 6 randomers just talking gibberish. Was a bit strange, not so much scary but definitely strange. Also when I got outside the place was dead - everyone is at home for thanksgiving, so I thought it would be best just to get an Uber to the hostel. First time I’ve gone for a room as big as 10 so we’ll see how that gets on.

I guess I’ll just chill in the hostel tonight as everywhere is closed for the night - but tomorrow I am off exploring.... an already explored city!

    • USA Tour - Boston ONS

      November 21, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ -3 °C

Came back to Boston for a quick overnight stop before I have to endure an 11 hour coach journey to Washington.... and I had to pay $80 for the privilege as I will be travelling on thanksgiving. However I also planned my trip up to meeting Ted in New York! Ted is one of my best friends older brother who has lived in NYC for a few years and was kind enough to let me crash in his for a few days, which is awesome of him and his wife! So I am off to Washington, Philadelphia, Atlantic city then on to New York for a few days! I haven’t planned any further than that so we’ll see how it goes

Currently staying in found hostel.... which is basically a hotel room with 4 beds. It’s not got the vibe of a hostel but it’s great if you want a comfy bed and a quiet room.

Just had a little walk round the downtown area today got a few beers and the worlds biggest sandwich from a place Called al’s - it was 16inches long..... and I ate the lot!!!

Also on my way back to my hostel today walking through Boston Common and they had the ice skate rink out which was awesome!
