    • USA Tour - Portland/Boston

      November 20, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ❄️ 0 °C

So I came back to Boston today after a few days up in Portland. The plan was to carry up further north but after a few locals advised against it and seeing on the news that a storm was coming in I made the decision to come back to Boston for a few nights, as from here it’s quite easy to get around!

However before I left for Boston I had another walk around Portland, and went to a place called ‘Beckys’ out on the waterfront that a few people had told me to try. It’s open from 4am to 9pm 7 days a week! Got my self a breakfast there and ended up talking to a few locals there, one recommended I make my way to New Haven in Connecticut, so I may look into that. What I have noticed a lot up in New England is that most people think Liverpool is in Ireland....

Had my first travel incident today too - I left all my ID and credit cards etc at my hostel when I checked out. Luckily I got some WiFi and I had an email off the hostel letting me know they had them otherwise i wouldn’t of noticed till I’d of left Portland which would of been too late!!! Coincidentally it’s the first time I’ve left a room without patting my head - I always check I have everything and if I do I pat my head like a postman’s knock so I know I’ve checked... so I’ll be sure to pat my head every time I leave a room now....

    • USA Tour - Portland, Maine

      November 19, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 1 °C

Today I braved the cold weather and did the back cove trail which is around 3.5 miles long around ‘Back Cove’

Took me a while to do as the floor is covered in snow and I’m wearing Nike 270’s which isn’t ideal! However, it was a great walk which takes you into the north and west of the city for you to walk around and discover!

Walking my way back towards my hostel I stopped off and got the best steak sandwich I’ve ever had. Currently in Starbucks, stealing their WiFi to update this blog, drink some ice tea and watch the world go by.

It’s my last day here in Portland as I’m off back to Boston tomorrow - my original plan of carrying up further north to bar harbour was brought to an abrupt halt as each local I spoke to highly suggested I didn’t as I don’t have the correct clothing and it won’t be that pretty up there at the moment. So I am making my way back to Boston and I’ll basically see where ever is cheapest to go next and go there. I may treat myself to a beer or two tonight though...

      November 18, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 1 °C

Decided to just walk around the town today - Portland is only a small place, so it’s very easy to get around. I ended up around the harbour area today, which was so quiet as it’s all pretty much closed for the season, including a lot of restaurants. Eventually came across a bar called ‘Ri Ra’ which is an Irish bar that was actually quiet good. I drank miller lite, and watched the NFL like a local. I also got speaking to a couple from Boston who where up here on vacation for a few days. Real cool, super nice people who bought me a few drinks and also recommended other places to go in Boston if I ever go back (I go back in a few days 😂😂)

After all the beer was drunk I needed another walk around the town. I stumbled across a place called ‘duckfat’ which was awesome - ended up getting a huge plate of poutine ❤️❤️

      November 17, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

Last day in Boston today before my trip up to Portland, Maine later in the day. Today is when I started this travel blog, I also made a few FaceTime calls home to let people know I’m still alive and well. I was going to Portland via a greyhound coach which I was looking forward to - except they’re not Grey like in the movies 😭😭😂😂 it was still a comfortable journey which took about 3 hours. Unfortunately it was so dark I couldn’t see much but I managed to catch up on some episodes of ‘Norsemen’ which my dad recommended to me before I left.

I stepped off the bus in Portland and immediately felt like this was a friendly place - the town reminds me of the one in the film ‘deck the halls’ there was snow everywhere and in some places around 7 inches deep. I walked all the way up congress street which took me pretty much direct to my hostel which is brilliant, more like a house than a hostel it’s in a brilliant location too!

After checking in I made friends with two guys in my room - 1 guy called Bryan from Tennessee who is up here on work (he owns a weed farm) and he’s ex Air Force. There was also a guy called Miguel who was also in the forces and me and him ended up going for a few drinks around Portland.

Brilliant night, Miguel was cool and he gave me some tips on where to go when I get to Texas as he’s from there. We ended up in a bar called Rosie’s which was a proper bar. Line dancing, country and western music and fries served in a basket!

      Great night!

    • USA Tour - Boston, Massachusetts

      November 16, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 1 °C

Today I woke up surprisingly refreshed considering I had walked the length and breadth of Boston the day before. I had yet more walking planned for today as I was doing the ‘freedom trail’ which is a walk through Boston which takes you to some important sites in regards to the revolutionary war against the British army.

Really interesting walk and it took me through parts of the city I had not yet seen such a bunker hill. I spent pretty much all day doing this as I kept deviating off the route if I seen something interesting, I also hit a few pubs up along the way to keep my energy levels up!

I ended the day by walking around Chinatown looking for the most authentic place I could find - I found one called wai wai which was a basement level restaurant with no English writing anywhere - long story short, 2 course meal and a drink was $8 so a bargain really. However I wouldn’t recommend the duck... Hahahahaha

      November 15, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ -1 °C

First full day in Boston and I was up and out early in the crisp, cold fresh morning. Today I was visiting Fenway
Park, which was a fair way away from the Hostel but I always walk when I’m away, I only use public transport when absolutely necessary. And I’m glad I didn’t use public transport as I’d of missed all the beautiful scenery, the sounds, watching people go about their lives.

Fenway Park was cool - real old school stadium, a lot smaller than what you’d think but it has real character. I even got to sit where Brad Pitt sat in the film ‘Moneyball’ I also managed to explore the local area and had a few beers in the ‘cask n flagon’ which is a huge bar next to the stadium where so the fans go.

After Fenway park I walked downtown which again is a fair old walk but it was brilliant. I went to the prudential tower in Boston to go to the skywalk observatory which gives you amazing views of the city. I spent over an hour in here just watching the sky get darker and the city getting brighter.

After I left here I went down to the Charles river and walked along the esplanade back towards Chinatown where I was staying - this was around a 3 mile walk right across the city’s riverfront.

To get to Chinatown you have to cut through Boston Common park, and on the edge of the park is the pub ‘Cheers’ so I just had to go in for a quick pint of beer... who wouldn’t?

Then as I left cheers to walk through the park the best thing happened - it started snowing.

Couldn’t ask for a better way to end the perfect day!

So... this is it. The start of my big adventure, although weirdly I’m not nervous or worried at all. Not even a little bit. I’m so excited I don’t have time for thoughts like that. I just want today to start ASAP. I flew into Providence, Rhode Island which is the next state over and got a train from there into Boston. The train journey was pretty uneventful as was the flight over to be fair. But as soon as I stepped out of that station, and saw Boston for the first time, it was at that moment I knew I couldn’t waste a second or let a moment pass me by.

The lights, the sounds and the ice cold air hitting me in the face was a feeling I won’t forget.

It was quite late when I got all checked into my hostel which was ‘HI BOSTON’ so I decided to go for a drink and then get some sleep ready for my first full day on my adventure....

    • Home for the Big Day!!

      October 27, 2018 in England ⋅ ☀️ 5 °C

The big day finally came around - my best friends wedding day 🎩 - and what a day it was, was shattered by 10:30 😂😂

Genuinely brilliant day and I couldn’t be happier for Kelly and Julie and as one of his best men along with Shaun the day was not as stressful as I first feared. Shaun kept me calm just before the speeches which helped hahhha. Julie looked stunning and it was great to see all out friends in a room together as it doesn’t happen so much anymore!

Although the day did get off to a bad start when the dog managed to escape undetected and was gone for 40 minutes before we realised 😂😂 so we ended up having 3 cars driving around Huyton looking for the dog - even nearly had Adam in his car looking to help as he had called me when I was driving around looking for him 😂😂

Luckily Andy (the usher) found him and we all breathed a sigh of relief Hahahahaha

Just some pictures of the day below
