The morning in Santa Cruz de La Palma

On a partially sunny and warm day, I left the hotel in Golf Sur by taxi at 07.00 and arrived at Tenerife Sur airport after 15 minutes. The new departure terminal was still being completed with retail units, and very few people were around at that time of day. It would probably be busier at weekends.
My 09.25 departure was the first of the day, with only 9 passengers on the 80-seat ATR turbo-prop Binter Canarias flight to the very quiet airport near Santa Cruz de la Palma which took about 40 minutes. I was met by a taxi-driver who took me on the short drive to the Hotel Holiday Time on the Avenida Maritime. After checking in, I visited the Natour travel agency almost next door which had arranged my visit to La Palma, the tour with Explore having been cancelled due to the lack of bookings.
After a snack Venezuelan lunch at a cafe run by Colombians, I walked along the promenade to get my bearings for where the bus stop and SPAR supermarket were for the following days' hikes and tours.
There were lots of old house with wooden balconies along Avenida Maritime and Calle Daly.Læs mere
