For a good chunk of my youth, I lived in the Calgary community of Acadia. Never thought much about the origin of that name but Acadia’s place in Canadian history and culture is significant in theЧитать далее
ПутешественникI remember the expulsion of the Acadians being taught to my grade five class. It was recognized as an injustice. The teacher never said anything about where they went, so now I know that some ended up as far away as Louisiana.
ПутешественникLovin the travels. So the Acadian of the family will comment a bit more history. Approx.10-12,000 were seperated put on boats to be deported anywhere along the coast Louisiana , South Carolina. To the English there were all the same , French. But in French occupied Louisiana that was not the case and they weren't well received. Acadians came from the Breton part if what is now France. They would have been considered Bretons , not French. Thus families gradually re-grouped and returned to their land ( which they had settled some 100 years before ) starting on the French Shore in NS and moving North. But by the English had claimed the best land and and they started over.

ПутешественникIt’s a cool bridge to look at from a distance but rather disappointing once on it (IMHO) as you only saw concrete to either side. The views ‘sucked’! And we crossed on a beautiful day, too.
ПутешественникI can’t disagree. In our case the wind and rain made the trip memorable.
ПутешественникWow! That sounds pretty scary across the bridge. I would not have enjoyed it either. I’m surprised how fast it took to cross it. What speed were you driving and i imagine you had to be all the same speed. I’m glad you both made it safe.
