A day in Paris oh boy what a day 7 hours of sightseeing on a circular walking route planned by chat gpt ( a very handy tool)

I’m absolutely whacked but it does mean I can get a lay in tomorrow instead of more sightseeing.

    Stops in order:
    1. Gare du Nord
    2. Sacré-Cœur Basilica (Montmartre)
    3. Moulin Rouge
    4. Palais Garnier (Opéra)
    5. Place Vendôme
    6. Louvre Pyramid
    7. Pont des Arts
    8. Sainte-Chapelle
    9. Notre-Dame Cathedral
    10. Musée d’Orsay
    11. Eiffel Tower
    12. Hôtel George V Paris
    13. Arc de Triomph

So tomorrow I move on to Barcelona - 6 hours on the train.

  • Las Ramblas, Sagrada Familia and beyond

    30. januar, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

So I covered a fair bit after Parc Güell firstly I headed to Sagrada Família this was supposed to be a highlight of the day. Alas, I turned up to find it surrounded by cranes and workmen’s barriers. I declined paying to go inside and decided I will come back and do it another time in the future when all the works have finished. So I left there and headed for Las Ramblas, guess what it was dug up with workman’s hoardings everywhere. I wandered up and down a few alleyways and visited the market. I then decided to go to Palau Guell so off i set thankfully not to far from where I was as when I got there it was closed. I still enjoyed my day but maybe January isn’t the best time to see the sights !!!Les mer

  • Train to Castelldefels from Barcelona

    31. januar, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 55 °F

This sensible version of me actually took the train to her next destination today. It didn’t take long but I’m glad I saved my feet for exploring Castelldefels. I ventured up to the castle first which had a really good guide. I learnt an awful lot about pirates today as there was an additional exhibition covering everything you could possibly want to know. Once I’d had my fill of learning I walked back to the town which although small was bustling. Once I’d checked in I chose a laundry nearest the beach to wash my gear. Boy oh boy was it windy down by the sea.Les mer

  • Castelldefels to Sitges

    1. februar, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 50 °F

Well I did more climbing than expected. I set off this morning on the coastal road marked simply by red and white lines along the route. It was all going well until I had to move away from the sea. I reached the road (which was flat) but I decided it was far to dangerous to walk along it. So I crossed it and found a marker heading up a hill, off I set. Well that hill turned into a mountain. I started to make my way down to a town / port called Garraf. I realised that to continue I’d have to do more of the same so I opted to take the train. As I waited the sun started to break through and after just a short journey I arrived in Sitges. This place is lovely, my hotel is beach front and it is surprisingly busy for a Sunday. I had a great walk around and grabbed some dinner. I’m now showered and watching the spurs with a beerLes mer

  • A bit of a washout today

    2. februar, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

So I’d planned to take a train through the mountain so as to avoid further climbing today. All was good and I set off walking. However the weather clearly didn’t get the memo because that light stick to you sort of rain started and did not stop. I admitted defeat and diverted to the nearest train where I hopped on to my destination. Once here I thought I’d brave some rain for a wander. Well it’s deserted all the shops and restaurants look like people just upped and left. I found a supermarket open and the guy said it gets busy in the summer. I’m not convinced! My hotel has a buffet dinner for 15 euro including drinks so that’s me for the night.
Fun fact if you ask at the station for a ticket rather than buying online they give them to you for free (I haven’t worked out why yet)

  • Coma-ruga to Tarragona

    3. februar, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 48 °F

Well today went to plan, the sun was shining and stayed that way all day. I walked 8 miles to Torredembarra at a nice leisurely pace. I then hopped the free train to Tarragona. I then had a 30 minute walk to my hotel but it actually took 45. This was because I was listening to map directions and it told me to take the first exit at a roundabout. I forgot I was looking for a Spanish first exit not an English one. How dumb ??? Anyway I made it in one piece and very happy for having walked all day in the sun.

Interesting traffic lights in Tarragona they count down to when it goes green to cross 45 seconds I guess people don’t feel they have to chance - very clever

  • Tarragona to Cambrils vía Salou

    4. februar, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 54 °F

So I headed out this morning knowing that it would be like walking a through a concrete jungle and believe me it was. However the reward was reaching Salou a place I used to take my boys to during February half term break. I saw climbing frames they’d climbed and beaches they played on, it seemed like yesterday. Then reality hit home and I realised it was nearly 20 years ago since our last visit. I will definitely come back her with Jack and his family and hopefully Charlie and his too. Once through Salou I took the coastal path all the way to Cambrils. I’ve clocked some serious miles today but have a train journey and a smaller walk tomorrow.Les mer

  • Tarragona to Cambrils part 2

    4. februar, Spania ⋅ ⛅ 52 °F

More pics from today - the last picture is from Mercadona the supermarket. It is of their ready meal section. The food is made fresh in-store. Once purchased you can take it to the seating area and heat it up in the microwaves and eat it on site 🤯 I had the lentil stew.Les mer

  • Cambrils to L Amellta de Mar pt 2

Part 2 to L Amellta de mar

Today was great it was so peaceful walking the railway I was tempted to explore the abandoned stations but sensible me said don’t be foolish

  • Cambrils to L amelta de mar

    5. februar, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 54 °F

Today started very cloudy and with a bit of drizzle in the air but off I set heading for Hospitalet de l’Infant train station. I could see the sun teasing through ahead which kept me going for a while. I realised the route took me up on to some major roads so I stopped for a break and to look at a work around. Apple Maps provided a disused railway so off I set again. On reaching the train station I found there were huge delays and I’d have to wait for nearly two hours. Not me I paid the money and took a cab (20 mins). I was glad I did as it gave me plenty of time to have a wander around and plan my train for the morning. I have a lay in as my train doesn’t depart until 11.30. It’s an hour and a half journey so I’m going to give my feet a day off, just sightseeing when I arrive.Les mer

  • l'Ametlla de Mar to Benicarló

    6. februar, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

A day of travelling extended by a long delay. I made the most of it and caught some sun at the station. I arrived in Benicarló and it clouded over but by 5pm the sun came back and lots of people descended on this port / town. I have another big travel day tomorrow I think 100 km.

I do love the municipal mercat, the one I went into tonight had little bars and coffee / cake shops inside all bustling with locals.

  • Sagunt

    7. februar, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 54 °F

Today was another train journey 100 km. The train was empty when I boarded but was standing room only by the time I arrived into Sugunt. I chose to walk tge 4 miles to my hotel. It was a concrete jungle but at least I was in the sun. This is another port and to be fair it’s actually quite lively but there is nothing to do or see other than restaurants and bars within a 30 min walk of my hotel. The major shopping area is the one that I passed an hour or so ago. That said, I’m going to nip to the supermarket and the laundrette. Dinner at the hotel is 16 euro incl drinks so that sounds like a plan for later .Les mer

  • Sagunt to Valencia

    8. februar, Spania ⋅ 🌙 57 °F

So this morning I walked the 4 miles back to the station in the sunshine and boarded a train for Valencia. When I arrived I was greeted with a stunning station, that rivals Porto. As I stepped out of the station I looked up and stood in stunned silence WOW. Valencia is stunning, busy with people everywhere so much noise after my little fishing ports. I headed for my hotel to dump my bag and headed out for a wander. I found tourist information and snagged a map. Chat GPT and I will be working on a circular route for tomorrow. I took a fair few pics of the station. The large round structure is the bull ring (closed tomorrow of course) I popped in the cathedral as it’s in the old town just 200 m from my hotel. I love the vibes and I’m exceptionally excited to sightsee this city to death tomorrow.Les mer

  • A rest day 🤣 in Valencia

    9. februar, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 63 °F

So I set off on my circular - ish route today to see as many sights as possible without doing myself harm. I learnt a little more about Valencia when planning the route yesterday. With that in mind I factored in the riverbed park. This park snakes all the way through Valencia 9km.
The original river was diverted after a catastrophic flood in 1957, and the former river bed now houses exuberant gardens and vegetation, gullivers park, games areas, cafes and much more. Some of the new modern buildings are mind blowing. Something that fascinated me are the orange trees baring fruit throughout the city and gardens, just there for everyone’s enjoyment. This is another place worth coming back to, it an exceptionally close 2nd to Lisbon for me but it’s still very very impressive.

  • Valencia to Cullera

    10. februar, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

I took the train this morning quite easily despite the national rail strike. They kept commuter trains running almost at full service. I arrived in Cullera and headed for my 4 star hotel for tonight! Yes hysterectomy rewards are real. Once checked in I took a walk up the mountain to visit the castle. It’s been a lovely warm day today 20+ despite the wind and clouds passing over. It’s approaching 6pm here now and the blue skies are returning slowly but surely. Im on the 10th floor and I’m looking forward to seeing the sunset shortly.Les mer
