Ride 89A Oak Creek Canyon

Today we took a ride on 89 a through Oak Creek Canyon.

Oak Creek Canyon is a river gorge located in northern Arizona between Flagstaff and Sedona, often referred to as a smaller cousin of the Grand Canyon due to its scenic beauty. The canyon is approximately 12 miles long and 2500 feet of elevation gain from the bottom of the canyon to the top.

We have been on this road several times. Almost always when we stay at Cottonwood we come up here. We started the ride heading through the town of Sedona. Which has beautiful, red rocks.

This time I connected the headset and my helmet to my auto tour called guide along and was able to hear a lot of history about Sedona and information about the rock formations that I was seeing as we went through Oak Creek Canyon. The guide along told me all about the Midgley Bridge which was built in 1939 and spans 240 feet

The ride through the canyon is beautiful and there are several twisties. Unfortunately, right before we got to the twisties construction started and we were forced into just one lane, one way at a time. Which means we have to follow all the other cars and go slow. Twisties are still beautiful, but it’s not as fun when you have to follow cars and go slow.Read more
