• Norris geyser basin- porcelain basin trail

    Today we headed over to Norris Geiser basin. This is a very popular area of the park so we wanted to get there early before the crowds.

    Along the drive, we passed a few bison, including one that was just walking along the side of the road. That was kind of funny to see.

    The first part of the hike was through porcelain basin. We started from the overlook which gave us a great view of all the geysers below. From this overlook, you can see milky blue pools saturated with silica, the primary component of glass. The thermal waters in Norris contain the highest concentration of silica in Yellowstone. Then we went down and walked along all the boardwalks through the porcelain basin. It was pretty neat to see such a contrast of colors all in the same area.
