Stopped at the Aire by the port as it is free during the day. Only a few spaces out of 60 left! We walked along the harbour and had a lovely lunch, Chris opting for the Tartiflette with Calvados! I just had the Camembert burger. We walked to the harbour entrance to see the white cliffs either side. Wandering back we came across the Benedictine Palace, where they make the liqueur. Wonderful building. In fact there were some lovely different architecture in the back streets.Read more

  • Honfleur

    September 12, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Well what a lovely place! We cycled the 3.5 miles to Honfleur and parked up. We did the Vieux Basin what a place, not one building is alike. We spend time wondering around the back streets and looking at such varied buildings. Lunch was a wrap in the park before a cycle along the Seine.
Cycling back was a little more uphill !!
We relaxed by the pool on our return but it was far too cold for my liking. Only 21 deg!!
Off to the outlet for shopping tomorrow!!👏

Part of the cheese route! A lovely old / in parts medieval town. How they have rebuilt it is a miracle when you see the pictures of the devastation. Little self guided tour as well. Chris now happy as has all the cheeses! A great spot to park the Motorhome but not on a Monday.Read more

  • Trouville & Deauville

    September 13, 2022 in France ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Arrived early afternoon in Deauville for 1 night. We cycled into town past the racecourse and Polo club. The beach is massive and the beach huts have famous names on them. The buildings are very grand and I can imagine the 1930’s people parading. We had to cycle over the bridge to Trouville. This is where the fish market it. Also lots of little lanes of shops. So many shops and restaurants closed as end of season!!Read more

  • Caen

    September 14, 2022 in France ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

We parked in the camping car Aire and walked the 30 minutes downhill into Caen.
We followed a self guided walk through the old town.Considering the city was decimated it has been rebuilt really well. Lovely shopping streets , medieval parts, open plazas and more churches than you need. We went into Abbaye aux Hommes and the church founded by William the Conqueror. We stopped for a lovely pizza for lunch and then a coffee before the walk home. We have been good and not too many pastries as a shop on EVERY corner.Read more

  • Bayeux

    September 15, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

We arrived in Bayeux early afternoon after a shopping trip to Decathlon. We are staying at the musical site on the NE of town which is compact but clean. The walk along the river and a easy into the town and the first stop was the tapestry. I was very impressed with it and the commentary.
Next the cathedral which is magnificent again! A wander around the town and a stop at a pastry shop before back to the van for tea.

    September 19, 2022 in France ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Had a couple of days resting. We have now come into Brittany for some warmer weather. Staying on the edge of the Gulf of Mobihan in Southern Brittany. Quiet sloping site. Easy cycle into Vannes through the pine forest and up the river on dedicated cycle paths. What a lovely place. The part wall old town has a lovely feel and was so easy to walk around. There are also lovely gardens near the ramparts.
We had a lovely 30th anniversary meal then a bit of shopping. Excellent day all round. So many photos taken today as around every corner was a beautiful view x

  • Amiens

    September 23, 2022 in France ⋅ 🌧 18 °C

Well we arrived at the site mid afternoon in light rain! The first for a while. We cycled into Amiens along the Somme, it was a lovely flat ride about 4km.
Amiens is dominated by the Cathedral, the largest gothic one in the world, it was amazing and the carvings were beautiful. The were other great buildings like the clock tower and law courts. Then we wandered through Saint-leu which has smaller tributaries of the Somme running through it like little Venice. Very pretty.Read more

  • Sunken Road Cemetery

    September 24, 2022 in France ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Our last stop in France was an emotional one. We stopped to see Chris’s uncles WWl grave. It is small cemetery near Arras down a small lane so we had to walk the last km. So well kept. Each headstone is carved with the regimental badge. There us even a visitor book but we forgot a pen.
Good bye France and thank you x
