    Mount Bromo & Ijen

    July 21, 2017 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We did a 2 day/ 2 night tour of Mount Bromo and Ijen. We met Margeaux at the station and got a train to Probolinggo. The train broke down 10 times on the way so a 4 hour journey turned into a 6 hour journey without aircon and water in economy seating. Me and Lily had to wait at Probolinggo for 2 hours for the mini bus to collect us. We had really nice chicken satay for dinner and then went to our accommodation. The guesthouse was very very basic and was freezing cold. The toilet didn't flush so by the time we left, our room smelt like a sewer. We left for Mount Bromo at 3am but couldn't see the sunrise because of the cloud at the viewpoint. We then trekked to the top of the crater which was really difficult, especially with the sand and the heat. Lily struggled a lot. We then drove to our Ijen accommodation where we met so many lovely people: two Dutch guys, a group from South Africa who lived in Vietnam, and English couple and a French dad/daughter. The next day we left for Ijen at 1am and had a very basic breakfast on the drive there (an egg and some bread). The trek up Ijen and into the crater was so so difficult but so worth it. The blue fire was incredible and when the sun rose, the views of the lake were amazing. We bought sulphur statues from the miners and our guide kept hugging me. We then trekked back down to the entrance with Rafaelle from Luxembourg.Read more
